    Chick with broken wing

I had a similar situation with different colored chicks in a clutch. The Silkie hen was an excellent mother, and had never showed any aggression at all. But in the last hatching, five of the chicks were pure white like her and two were completely black (the father was buff, so go figure). After...

OVERLY tired newly hatched chick...anyone had this? Not first timer ;)

This old thread just gave me hope - THANKS to all of you! I have an Easter Egger chick hatched under an experienced Silkie mom. The chick is soaking wet and just laying there. Mom's keeping it warm but I was worried it had a problem. I guess I would be pretty exhausted too after fighting my way...

Comment by 'CHICKEN BUFF' in item 'Crevecoeur'

I have several varieties of Polish and last year added Houdans to my flock. I have a soft spot for crested breeds, and I ordered Crevecouers at McMurray Hatchery this year. https://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/crevecoeurs.html

Review by '' on item 'Easter Eggers'

I have a wide variety of breeds in my flock. The oldest are my 5 Easter Egger gals. They're hardy, handle extreme heat AND cold, lay faithfully, forage well, and are very calm. Two of them are the bosses of the entire flock, but they don't bully any of my less assertive breeds like my Polish and...

How to keep ducks out of the chicken coop?

I have a chicken coop that's 4 feet off the ground. The ducks have their own house. But I have one very persistent duck that keeps getting into the coop and smashing and eating eggs. I've clipped their wings, and changed the solid ramp to a sloping ladder affair with spaces between the rungs. So...

    Silkies

My silkies are doing VERY well with my flock of full-size Polish. Polish tend to be pretty mellow and laid back -- I've never witnessed any bullying among my particular birds. In fact, Polish are much more likely to have their head feathers picked off by other breeds! They're not terribly...

What to do with a dwarf chick?

New thought - what if I put I'm so glad you mentioned the time factor - I would have picked evening, since that's the time I usually "kidnap" anyone who needs inspection or treatment, LOL!

What to do with a dwarf chick?

I saw some Seramas for the first time a few months ago - I had NO idea they were so teeny (and gorgeous!). Thanks for the thumbs up on the Nutri-Drench and mealworms, and for the encouragement. My husband suggested I put her in a birdcage and call her a parakeet, LOL. Aside from that, how will I...

What to do with a dwarf chick?

Your experiences remind me of the saying "small but mighty!" I DO plan to let this little one enjoy her life as long as she can. :)

What to do with a dwarf chick?

I didn't know that! The Tolbunt flock where the eggs came from contained some frizzles, but I don't know if both parents were frizzles.

What to do with a dwarf chick?

I haven't had to give supplements to any of my other chickens before. I'm thinking of trying Nutri-Drench, and maybe some probiotics, in addition to the mealworms you recommended. Thoughts?

What to do with a dwarf chick?

Love your golden-laced babies! Thanks for the photo for comparison! :) I purchased the eggs online from a reputable breeder. They arrived very well-packed, but I knew that hatchability was still likely to be zero to 50percent at the most because of getting shaken around in the mail. I put them...

What to do with a dwarf chick?

I wondered about her life span. Didn't realize Tolbunts were susceptible to this odd condition. I'll try the mealworms, thank you!

What to do with a dwarf chick?

She is actually standing and walking properly on her feet, so that's one thing I don't have to worry about. (And yes, the other Polish in my flock often sit on their hocks too!). Took a couple photos of her as I just weighed her on my kitchen scale - 2.9 ounces!

What to do with a dwarf chick?

Good question. Nope, she stands and walks on her feet properly (thank goodness). I think she was just intimidated by being out in the open for the photo! Will try to take another photo today. :)
