I have a 2-year old BC, and he is great with chickens, rabbits, sheep, other dogs, etc. He does get excited around small children, most likely because we don't have any, and they are a novelty. As for the heel nipping, I would imagine you can very easily train them what they can and cannot...
I am using a Mac, and have no problems with backyardchickens (have been using it for years), but cannot use any of the sister sites. I can usually load the home page of backyardherds, but get a dropped connection error whenever I tried to navigate beyond that. Cannot even open the other sites...
I have the same problem, but it's inconsistent. I can sometimes see a page, but most times not. I have no other issues with any other sites, including this one. I have the latest Chrome and Firefox, and it's the same on both. Definitely a problem with the site.
I did read that, but all the foot bottoms look the same, some of the tops have more pink on the toes than the others. This is the only difference I see.
I received a shipment from MM this morning, and have a dilemma. I have ID'd all the chicks except the two in the title. I ordered 5 Black Australorps and 3 Black Minorcas. I would not care except that 2 of the Australorps are going to my sister's, and I don't want her to take the wrong ones...
Just received my order of 32 assorted layers this morning. They were shipped out yesterday, and the PO called me early this morning. All are alive and well. I have ordered from MM since 2006, and have never had one die in transit; all small orders. I did not get any extras, but my free rare...
It would be very expensive to ship that many adult birds. They have been around kids, cats, and dogs. While they won't let us pick them up willingly, they will run up to you.
We are moving, and are unable to keep them. I have raised them from babies, and they come back to the chicken coop every night. I also have 8 laying hens. They are a little older (3-5 years), but are still laying fairly well.
I am in West Palm Beach, FL
I used this method for my pond last year, and it still works great! My pond is above ground but not raised. It's very easy to keep clean; I just drain and rinse a couple of times a week, and brush it once in a while to remove algae (Florida grows all kinds of things)...
I have both chickens and ducks (one laying). Other than the ducks eggs being firmer than the chicken eggs, I cannot tell any difference in taste. They certainly do not stink. Both my chickens and ducks free range in a fenced area with access to feed and plenty of forage.
I also use the...
You don't need to have a "pond", but they do love to splash around, and will benefit from being able to put their heads under water. This can be accomplished with a large pan of water or a bucket. It does not have to be something they can swim in. I do have a small pond, but mine also love...
Very cute! However, if this is their nighttime pen, you really need hardware cloth; poultry wire will not keep out most predators. I think the landing is a great idea for the ladder - the front of the ladder is too close to the front of the pen, and they might not be able to get on it easily.
I recently lost all of my duck flock to a dog attack (broke into the pen at night). Only one survived. I also could not find a local adult duck, so after she recuperated, I got a duckling. The older duck HATED the duckling with a passion, and tried to bite her constantly. I started by...
