HELP! Duck's new enclosure...

One more question....does her companion HAVE to be another Pekin? We definately don't want more ducklings, a drake is a no no...but would 2 hens fight?

I recently lost all of my duck flock to a dog attack (broke into the pen at night). Only one survived. I also could not find a local adult duck, so after she recuperated, I got a duckling. The older duck HATED the duckling with a passion, and tried to bite her constantly. I started by letting them swim together for a few minutes each day (supervised of course), then let them preen together in a large area. After a week of this, I made a small pen with chicken wire and put that inside the pen with the adult, so they could see/hear each other, but not have physical contact.

After two weeks, here they are, and get along great now:

I guess my big girl decided that putting up with the little one was better than being alone.

Hmm....not having to be a pekin makes it much easier.
And thanks SO MUCH kcardella for explaining that. I'll probably go with the duckling.
First, it's much more available, the feed store 10 miles away has some pekin ducklings. And second, my parents are more likely to buy them.

Ugh....well me and my parents had a somewhat nice talk. But I can't get a duckling....I won't go into details.
Anyways, my Mom wants a chicken instead. They sell full grown hens at the feed store, 10$ each. They lay blue eggs or something.
That's the main reason my mom wants the chicken, just for eggs. But can Sunny bond with a chicken? Will it be the same? I'm alittle skeptical about it, but...
What do you guys think?

Oh yes, she knows that. It's just she'd rather not have another duck. I'm not sure why...she just doesn't. And when your 13, you better not argue back!

My dad on the other hand, he'll do anything my mom says lol...
