Hi
Thanks to Hurricane Sandy's power outage, only one of my hatching eggs hatched.
My lonely chick is a week old and in desperate need of companions. Breed not important.
I did make a post in the wanted ads too.
Thanks for any help!
Sue
Hi
Thanks to the hurricane and power outage, only one of my eggs hatched from the incubator.
I need 2 companions for my lonely little Araucana. I'd prefer a green egger, but chick company is more important.
Thanks,
Sue
Is anyone looking to buy true Araucana cockerels? These are true stock, not the phony hatchery versions, and they are not Ameraucana.
All are rumpless, one or two have a couple tail feathers, and some have small tufts. It's hard to tell, since they pick them off eachother.
The colors are white...

Illia, I was so happy to read your post about tufts chicks from non-tufted parents. I feel a little vindicated because I posted earlier that there was a possibility of that. (Reduced penetrance vs myth)
Carmel, I don't know about getting a black from a splash, except that I have a black...
Hi Rosemerry
I'm next door in Berlin. There is a workshop this Wed. http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render?llr=yjfqi7cab&v=001bNszPz862YwwPJbYpumxER5RCTtsiaBABiiJpsfDo7z113Ys9CcYxJ1tJwhBAE_7L7mJ0bAZpL_bozekhmGaWwirEHfxcI2cA8jk1e_T0utgU7Vo62j7kw%3D%3D by Megan Megrath, the poultry...
ps- has anyone else noticed that the new BYC is painfully slow to load? The thread comes up, but then I can't scroll until the multitude of ads finish loading. Grrr.
Wow! All these posts since I've been here last!
Cobredor's eggs have all hatched, and I now have 7 rumpless babies, and 3 have little tufts! I hope they all grow up to become healthy, happy PULLETS!
Thanks Carmel!
Hi All!
I'm taking a break from my endless stream of studying for exams.
Cobredor sent me hatching eggs, I have most of them in my friend's incubator with her batch from Smoothmule (I think). The eggs that didn't fit are in my homemade incubator. We're hoping to see some pips around the 21st...
Lanae, I know exactly what you mean. If this love of the Araucana breed, were a human relationship, my friends would be telling me to leave him! So much disappointment, but the successes are just that much more treasured.
And I just love their "bustles".
Ha! Mine too. Although every so often its a false alarm.
Of course, by the time I get there, the layer is back out eating, so I haven't figured out who is laying the really true blue eggs. I've narrowed it down to three suspects. None of the suspects have tufts, and only one is rumpless. Oh well.
That is my mistake for thinking that a non-expressed gene may be expressed in future generations. My information on the 4-14 % reduced penetrance of a heterozygous tufted bird was based on info in the research article "Ear Tuftedness: A Lethal Condition in the Araucana Fowl" in the Journal of...
They are sweet and fun. They don't lay eggs as often as production hens, but they are friendly and can tolerate New England winters. I have two roosters that never fight (I had a 3rd one who did fight, he's gone now) and the roosters are good husbands and fathers.
The turquoise eggs are worth...
Not to nitpick, but there is a slightly less than 50% chance of getting tufted chickes from a tufted mated to a non tufted. That is because the dominant tufting gene has reduced penetrance, meaning that a chick will inherit the tufting gene but may not have tufts.
Which is another reason to...
I'm so bummed! I opened the coop this morning, and the two roosters that have been getting along forever have bloodied heads (combs mostly) and the young (bigger) rooster has almost no injuries. And wouldn't you know, it's Scooter, my favorite and the only rumpless one, that seems to be hurt the...
I'm so sorry, Lanae! I feel the same way about leaving home. And I also believe that the scale of the catastrophe is directly proportional to how much fun I have when I go out/travel.
My only rumpless hen is limping. Do you think that's from the youngest roo being a bit "unchivalrous"...
