Thanks for the quick reply!
I put a large goop of neosporin over the area with gauze and then vet wrap around her body to hold it in place.
I was just trying to read the past posts and I saw one that said NOT to wrap it because it cuts off air to the wound. Now I don't know if I've covered...
Hello all,
Yesterday morning we found a coyote in our backyard trying to attack our flock. After running him off we discovered that he had bitten our bantam cockerel (who had been doing his best to defend the girls).
After checking out the cockerel, we discovered that he had a smallish...
Awesome!
Maybe this will satisfy my son's urge to get more chicks! And this way we don't have to feed, water and clean up after them! lol
Too cute! We've bookmarked you!
I went ahead and PM'd ThreeHorses. I hope she doesn't mind.
I cleaned up the poo from earlier so I don't have any sample to take in right now. But once I find some, I'll call our vet and see if I can bring it in.
Thanks again Kittymomma.
No, I haven't tried to PM her. I'm not sure how to do it. Do you think she would mind? I hate to be pushy.
I'll have to call and see if my vet (doggie/kitty type) would do it for us. If so, we'll take a sample over.
Thanks for the idea!
Thanks Kittymomma for the link. I actually studied it a lot yesterday in trying to find out what to do. From all my reading, I think it is tapeworm, but I'd sure like someone to be able to verify. I've never wormed our birds before (they're 7 months to 4 months old). But, they've gotten DE...
Also, I forgot to add that all of these chickens are 7 months old or younger.
Sorry for the continual posting! And thanks again for any advice offered! I'm off to continue my search of previous posts!
Thanks,
Christy
Update: After posting yesterday, I read a lot on the site and thought this was tapeworm. I went and got the Safeguard Dewormer for Goats (Fenbendazole) and mixed it per ThreeHorses' dosage and mixed with 2# of chicken feed. They ate it last night and finished it this morning. I wanted to...
Thanks, she's also a very sweet girl. She was one of four that we picked at random at the feed store. Popcorn (roo) was SUPPOSED to be a female as well, lol! Luckily, so far, he's been very docile as the little bantam roo rules the roost.
You're right, EE's are fun! You never know what...
Diet Dr. Pepper or Diet Pepsi for me.
Our chickens drink the hard stuff......water, straight up! Sometimes on the rocks, when the temps outside go over 100 degrees.
Just wanted to add our flock to the mix:
Our newest trio of baby orps, Monkey Lord (blue?), Colossus (black) and Coconut (splash):
Our mottled bantam cochin pair (Trevor and Cluck) and our resident "mutt" (Cinnamon):
Our other roo (Popcorn) and our ee's (Nugget and Brownie):
Pumpkin -...

Great news on your girl's recovery! Since I'm trying to avoid as much fighting between roos as possible, I'm trying to find new homes for two of our bantam cochins. If you're interested, here's the craigslist ad:

I know the ad...
We need to find homes for two of our black bantam cochin roos. They are 20 weeks old. I know the craigslist ad says $5, but if you're from BYC, I'll give them to you for free for a good home! Thanks!

Boy you aren't kidding, Rachel. If I had the start up money, I'd be on that business like white on rice. There isn't a single small time processor that will do chickens and turkeys in the whole state!
I hope you don't mind me jumping in here! But, how do you all cull your birds...
