my chickens started laying a few weeks ago . i have 6 hens.started with 3 a day. today we got 5, and tonite i noticed them messing around with something in the run.it was an egg that they were eating. i have heard horrible things about this. will i be ok ? or am i doomed after this ?

From what i have read.This is a natural thing for them to do. The "squatting " is supposed to let a rooster know they have reached breeding time.

Mine were very hesitant to go back into the coop the first nite or to, i simply hung a light in the coop around dark and they were all inside in 15 minutes. did that for 2 days .now they go inside at 845 pm like clockwork.

3 of my 6 started laying almost a week ago.they are only 14 weeks old so i was suprised when my wife found them. barely bigger than a golf ball. can't wait for the other 3 to start.

I'm a first time chicken guy and i'm looking to use the vertical nipples with pvc pipe. Has anyone tried using heat tape on the pvc ? We've had several days in the below temps here in WNY the last couple winters, I'm curious if heat tape would keep it from freezing. thanx.
