@realsis I'm using what the feed store suggested for my pullets...
I hope it's not hurting them. I 'll ask again.
@aart We use a product made here in Texas. Aledo I think is the town...
22% start grow layer crumble http://bryantgrain.com/products.html
@DIY Chick
My girls are 3 months old today or 13 weeks.
I feed them a 22% protein layer crumb
Snacks include veggies from our table as well as bread and mealworms for treats.
I occasionally see them eat the hay, but they mostly scratch at it looking for bugs.
I have two of everything listed below...
The Golden Laced Wyandottes are some of my favorites...
Beautiful birds and decent layers.
I also love my two Americaunas as well.
One of my 9 week old Buff Orpingtons appears to be favoring her right leg. I inspected her thoroughly to check for a broken leg and noticed nothing. When I watch her walk, she favors this leg, but her other leg also appears to be turned to the right as well.
Is this a possible birth defect? Has...

@azygous I appreciate the information. I was very concerned at first, but after reading most people's posts on here, I feel much better. I'm not as concerned as I originally was.
@aart
They are almost 9 weeks old now. I don't think they "gorge" on it. I've only seen it in a little poop. They mostly forage through the hay looking for insects.
@Chris09 We sift through the manure...pun intended to get the actual truth. I show this film simply to make kids more aware of what food they are placing into their bodies.
We in fact break down the Michael Moore scare factor of the movie.
@JetCat Thanks for the information. I appreciate the expertise. Rookie here, gets nervous when it comes to my girls. I want to do right by them. Make sure they are healthy and all.
@ChickenCanoe I also make the kids journal a food diary for 48 hours. It's very scary to see how badly kids eat these days. One of the many reasons I love this class. I want to help in any way possible.
@Hholly it is so important for me that I help my students understand that it is their responsibility to know what is in their diet. What they put in their body is their responsibility. Hopefully they can also convince their parents to make changes too.
Food Inc in my nutrition class right now. As a high school teacher, I've taken this as a personal mission to make my students aware of what they are putting in their diets.
All the more reason I chose to purchase and raise my own chicks for egg purchases. If you've never seen this movie...
@oldhenlikesdogs
I feed them plenty of veggie scraps from my table. Celery, lettuce, cabbage. What's the difference? Glad to hear this news. I can rest easier tonight. Thanks again.
