I have standard cochins in white, blue, buff and partridge, and silver laced. They free range all the time. They do get dirty sometimes but they do OK. They are so incredibly friendly. They run up to me whenever I come out of the house. They are constantly broody. All in all, they are great!
I acquired 4 bantam chickens (2 silkie hens, a cochin roo, and a frizzle roo of some sort). They are used to being free so they just fly out of the run every morning and fly back in to roost every evening. A few days ago the frizzle disappeared. There was no feather laying around or anything...
I got 2 guinea keets at the end of July. I started them off in the chicken coop in a room sectioned off from the big "chicken room". After about two weeks they were able to fly to the rafters and joined my chickens. They adopted a cross beaked blind cochin hen as their mom. They are with her...
I just got 2-1 week old Keets this morning. We had planned on building a small coop for them but it would be so much easier (and economical) to put them in the chicken coop. The could actually have their own "room" within the coop. Is their a problem with doing this? Do they really need...
Can you tell me if my these standard Cochins are male or female? I don't know if this is possible as they are only 8 weeks. The pictures aren't the best. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
The buff in the front.
The blue.
The partridge next to the silver laced.
I just wanted to say hi! I am new to chickens. We are in the Findlay area. I currently have 32 standard Cochins chicks but need to downsize.
I am loving BYC!

Unfortunately, I had a bad experience with the ducks swimming water in with the chicks. I had two drown in the 1 ft deep swimming pool. I felt terrible! They were just starting to fly a bit and I am assuming that they flew in. I moved the ducks pool outside the fence and they get to swim in...
I was able to see the parents when I picked up the ducklings. They look just like the ducklings and dad had a curled feather on it's tail. There wasn't anything else distinguishing about them. I guess it really doesn't matter what they are. I was just curious. I love them no matter what.
I am thinking they probably aren't Pekins. I looked them up and it says they weight 8-10 lbs. My ducklings mama weighs around 3 lbs and daddy is 4-5. Any other ideas?
Thanks!
I acquired these two babies when they were a couple of weeks old from a lady who didn't know anything about them but was desperate to get rid of them. Does anybody know what they are? I know absolutely nothing about ducks and had never planned on owning any but I love them anyway! Is there...
I have loved Welp! Our Cochin order was shipped on June 1st and we had them on June 3rd. They were mostly in great shape (we lost 1 and 1 has cross beak, missing eye and short leg) but they had sent 10 extra chicks so we ordered 25 and they sent 35.
Good luck!
I just got my Cochin chicks yesterday that I had shipped from the hatchery. I noticed that one had a crossed beak. Is there something that I need to do for it? Will it be able to eat/drink OK by itself? I am completely new to the world of chickens.
Thanks!
