The bubbles in her eye is unique in my limited experience. I did a quick search and found this about Mycoplasma:
When wild birds come down and drink from water and feed from feeders, the virus is easily spread to hens. It is a widely held belief that virtually every outdoor flock of...
Oh my...I so wish I could help you! What a sweet lil' one. It looks like an issue with her right leg or maybe something neurological? GREAT idea to post the video to give everyone a true sense of your ordeal. Hopefully someone with experience will come along soon.
She definitely has more color, thank you for asking! But her feathers are just a wreck. They have heat lamps in the coop, but it has been so darn cold here. I'm debating on whether or not to get her a sweater. I don't want to inhibit new feather growth or encourage mites, but I don't want...
I didn't get any valbazen yet...worried about worming her with that since I just wormed her with Ivermecting yesterday. (?) And from earlier posts on another thread, it sounds as though she might very well have a fungal infection. My Daughter's dog has what looks like fungus/yeast on his...
Will do! Not sure what rales are, but I can look it up if I don't hear gurgling, wheezing, or a clicking noise. Sure do appreciate your help, dawg53!
All that aside, do you think the product I mentioned above would help her breathe a little bit better? Maybe a little under her wings?
I have on hand from my Grandma, Unker's Multi-Purpose Medicated Salve. The ingredients are:
Pharmaceutical Grade Snow White Petrolatum Base, Eucalyptus, Wintergreen, Menthol Crystals, Pine Needles, Camphor
Do you think this would be a suitable alternative to VetRx?
One of my hens (2 /2 yr...
Do you have any oxine? My local Co-op didn't have any nor had they ever heard of it. I found it online, but only in gallons. Cannot justify it right now.
Did you look to see if she has something lodged in her throat? Or swab her throat with a q-tip to check for Gapeworm? There is a lot of helpful information in this post: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/328429/help-gasping-hen
Pics of Twin 1 and Twin 2: (Twin 1 is the one this original thread is regarding)
Twin 1: (still yellow skin, orange comb and wattles, looks sickly but runs around and forages, droppings were normal, stuck in molt and/or liver disease issue, inside for 10 days with heat, food, water...
Capillary Worms, Gape Worms or Respiratory Infection? Her symptoms:
1.) Labored breathing but not wheezing, (I didn't see any obstructions in her throat and she is still breathing with her beak closed)
2.) Comb and wattles are turning purple
3.) Shakes her head occassionally
4.) Sleeps alot...
I'm not familiar with capillary worms. I had planned to worm them tomorrow. Will Ivermectin take care of capillary worms as well? The first twin (in the pictures) doesn't look any better, but she is still ranging with the rest of the flock all day. I don't know that she is eating though...
No, I did not have any misters this summer. The Co-op didn't have any Oxine, nor had they ever heard of it. I guess I will have to order some. I am so frustrated! Another one of my hens (the other Twin to the aforementioned one) seems to have difficulty breathing now. Her comb is slightly...
So sorry your little girl is sick. I'm new too and in my experience, it is best if you give more information:
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting...
That's why I'm puzzled - it has been SO HOT & DRY here all June-Sept. (I'm talking upper 90's, lower 100's, record breaking heat and very arid). I have never seen/found mold anywhere in the coop, pen, my house or anywhere on the property for that matter.
She hasn't pooped much today and so...
Yellow skin, scraggly feathers, fatigue...oh my! I too, find comfort in knowing this has happened to another hen as well. Coincidentally, my little hen is 2 1/2 years old. (I know it seems funny she doesn't have a name, but it's because I could never tell her and her sister apart, so we just...
Oh Honey...I wish I could be of some help.
6? Wow! From what I understand, that is a good old age.
In your first post you said she cannot stand. In your last post you said she cannot sit. Is she standing now?
Have you tried massaging around her bottom area and feeling for an egg shaped...
I am so sorry! I know it is helpful for others if you give a bit more information:
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
4) Are other birds...
