    Roo or Pullet???

I told someone they could have him if it was infact a cockerel. I just wanted a few more people to tell me they thought it was a roo before I gave him away. I am kind of in a hurry because I cannot have him start trying to crow. These are secret chickens.

    Roo or Pullet???

16-17 weeks. It is a good bit bigger than all the other ones I got at the same time. And it is very aggressive towards all the other ones and even to the older hens.

    Such a sad day.

The only problem with my coop and run is i didn't shut the door. It is secure and the only way in would be tunneling and he would have to go a foot under ground. The only time I let them out now is while I am out there. I haven't trapped him yet but shooting him isn't an option since I live in a...

    Such a sad day.

I did not take offense to that at all. I plan to be very cruel to this fox whenever I catch him.

    Such a sad day.

The fox came back again yesterday morning. The chickens were still locked up. I ran and grabbed a shotgun and when I came back he was gone. Then he came back again last night and was screaming like a baby and kept walking up and down the fence line. I'm not going to be able to have the trap set...

    Such a sad day.

I guess I am going to leave the rest of mine and the new ones I will be buying in the coop and run unless I'm out there until I get the fox taken care of.

I worked for an extermination company for a while in their wildlife division. I will catch him.

    Such a sad day.

I have lived here for 3 years. In a not so rural area I'm 1/4 mile from a Walmart and neighborhoods all around. I have never seen one either until today. He didn't even try to eat them he was just killing them and moving on to the next.

    Such a sad day.

I got up this morning like I always do at 6:00 and went to the kitchen to make coffee. I heard my hens making a little ruckus and then all was quiet. A couple minutes later all hell broke loose and I saw one of my hens fly across the yard. I ran outside to see what was going on and spooked a fox...

    Production is down

Is it common for egg production to drop when new pullets are introduced to the flock and at the same time I got rid of the dominant hen. I was getting 11 or 12 a week out of my two hens. the same day I introduced 8 pullets I sold my dominant hen. Last week got 7 eggs and this week 5. Is this normal?

    What breed?

A lady sitting in a parking lot on the side of the road had these two pullets and about 100 foot of chickenwire. I told her I only had 10 bucks and she gave me all of it. Apparently she was a pothead and on a whim decided she wanted chickens and wanted to name them "waffles" and " pancakes"...

    Introducing chicks to my flock

I have 3 hens that were given to me last year. The biggest one "Big Mama"is mean and I have figured out in the last week or so she doesn't lay. I have been getting a dozen eggs a week. We never saw her sit in a nest box so I locked the other 2 out of the coop for the day. Both of them layed next...

7-8 week old can you tell, cockerels or pullets?

    1. 2. 3. These are the 3 I'm worried may not be pullets. It wouldn't be that big of a deal but I'm not supposed to have chickens in my neighborhood and I cant have a cockerel learning how to crow at 4am. I have to get rid of them as soon and I am pretty certain.

    Post your pics! :)

Right now it's very basic. Just a place to get the chicks out of the garage. Eventually it will have 3 nesting boxes and a roost pole. This was a quick way to get them out of the garage and slowly introduce them to my older hens

    Post your pics! :)

Built this today to house my chicks until it's time to introduce them to the rest of the flock and move into the larger coop. I'm going to build a platform for it to set on so that the enclosed portion has a floor and the chicken wire portion will have a ladder down to the dirt.
