My Cots have been laying 9 eggs a day for almost a month and now the past two days they have not been laying as well. yesterday they layed 3 eggs and today I got none. Is it possible it is the heat causing this problem? I has been almost 100 degrees the past two days. If so, how can I keep them...
My "guest bedroom" currently. I might be going a bit insane. 30 Texas a&m in the incubator hatching Tuesday. 43 cots waiting to go in incubator #1 and 36 French copper eggs waiting for incubator #2. I hope my wife doesn't make me sleep outside for this.
I used a red bulb I bought from tractor supply it was a two pack for like $9. I have been pleased. You just need to monitor the temp or put on a dimmer switch because they can make some serious heat.
I know exactly why people become hatching addicts and I believe I have a problem myself haha. I love waiting for hatch day, monitoring the temp, the humidity and waiting to see your eggs start having tiny cracks in them. This is so much fun.
i put my tuxedo quail in at approximately 6pm on Mother's Day. According to my calculation tomorrow or Thursday should be hatch day but an app that I am using says today is hatch day. I am set up and ready either way but I just don't know. Any help?
yesterday I got 5 eggs from my new Texas a&m quail but today I haven't gotten any. Could the fact that we have had rain and it has been overcast all afternoon cause them to not lay? I am new to the egg laying experience.
Thanks
Here is a photo of my new quail house. Their cages hang inside of the protected shell. So far I love it. I am no carpenter so I was quite impressed with how it came out.
anyone else have issues with overflow in the little giant incubator when the auto turner is in? I can never seem to put the right amount in and I get water all in the floor since I can't see the channels. Any solutions out there?
Anyone ever attempt to set up a temperature alarm to alert of high temp? I lost almost 100 eggs because of a spike in temp for about 5 hours and I don't want that to happen again.
Well I just went to check my incubator. It must have had an issue because the temp was 111. I bet I killed all of my eggs. I ended up taking the top off and tried to cool it down a bit. Refilled the water and put the top back on. So disappointed because I figure it was too warm for at least 5...
I have been keeping my 3 week old quail in a shop that is built in the basement of my home since hatching. For about two weeks my daughter, my wife, and myself have been plagued by sneezing, coughing, runny nose, sore throat. This is typical for my daughter and wife as they have terrible...
Built some new pens yesterday/today was able to tell the sex of my almost 3 week old quail. Ended up with 10 female and 7 male. 97 more going into lockdown in a few minutes. What have I gotten myself into? Haha
i just put my 2 week old cots in their new home Amin which the food and water are on the outside of the cage. They are doing fine with the food but I am having a hard time getting them to drink. I put a few pieces of pine shaving in the water (just so they could see the water) and a few drank as...
I would leave them. I left my last hatch for about 6-8 hours it wasn't worth the risk of hurting the others. They can survive for like 24-48 hours before the need actual food.
