    ISA-Brown page. :)))))))

I love all the info on this page! I decided to get chicks this year for eggs and went to various feed stores in my area to see what they had. I researched what was available to me and went with Isa Browns and black australorps. So far I love them! The Isa's have so much personality. I'm also...

    Chickens sleeping In run

I had the same issue when I put my 8 week old chicks outside in the run. I went out about dark and found them all huddled in one corner of the run. I put them all back in the coop and locked them in for the night, but had no clue why there were doing that. The next night I went out a little...

    Introducing new hens to pullets

Thank you, I like the numbers you used! The coop is 8x9 with a 3 tier roof and 4 nesting boxes. They can hide under the nesting boxes and roosts if needed. The run is 10x8. I may try free ranging some in the summer when they are a little bigger.

    Introducing new hens to pullets

I'm a new chicken owner. I have 12 about 8 week old pullets in the new coop now. I am getting 3 laying hens this weekend. I've read about separating in the coop for a few days and I just don't have a good way to do that. Has anyone ever just added the older hens to the pullets? Is it a bad idea...

    Chicken math

I'm glad I found this post! I decided to get a few chicks for eggs and spent a whole day going to different feed stores and looking at different ones. Finally decided to get 6 black australorps from tsc. Went back the next day to get my BAs and came home with 6 BAs and 6 ISA Browns as well. I...

    Tractor Supply Chicks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My chicks came from TSC this year. Being a first time chick owner I shopped a lot of feed stores and did some research on breeds. I wanted good egg layers. I found some straight run black Australorps marked down for a $1. I decided to start with 6 of those, came home to get stuff ready and went...

    Feeding a mixed flock

Thank you! I feel much better about adding adult birds now. We are in Southern Ohio and the weather here can be crazy! I think we are temps this week anywhere from 32-75!

    Feeding a mixed flock

Thank you, I like to buy large amounts of things, it's always cheaper. I will definitely look into the bulk oyster shells. My next question, I have a 50lb bag of nutrena chick starter/grower that is medicated. Should the adults hens not have the medicated feed?

    Feeding a mixed flock

We are new to chickens, I have 6 BA's That are about 7 weeks old and 6 ISA Browns about 5 weeks old. They are getting ready to move to the coop this week. We are also getting a couple adult hens when the coop is finished. What's the best way to feed a mixed flock? The chicks are on a...

Easter Eggers. (Are the eggs as good?)

My chicks get plenty of interaction! With 3 and 7 year old boys, they are handled plenty! I might try some barred rocks. I really like the look of them. How well do the Easter Eggers lay?

Easter Eggers. (Are the eggs as good?)

Thank you! I really like the look of the barred rocks, but have read they aren't the friendliest, so I decided to stay away from them. My Isa's seem to have so much personality. Here's a pic of one I took the other day at about 3 weeks old.

Easter Eggers. (Are the eggs as good?)

I recently got chicks to raise and get some eggs from. We have 6 BA's and 6 ISA Browns. I would like to get some hens already laying. I really like the idea of the colored eggs from Easter Eggers. My question is, are the eggs as good? I love farm fresh brown eggs, but I don't know a whole lot...

Thank you guys. Time will tell! But I do believe two of the blacks are Roos. Oh well! At least they aren't all 6 Roos!

    New to chicks

I think the one on the far left is a roo, there's one more that looks like that one, but I couldn't get a good pic of him. Of my 6 Black Australorps, I think I only have 2 Roos. What do you guys think?

    New to chicks

Hi, I raised meat chickens for 4-h as a teen and recently decided to get some chicks for my kids to enjoy and of course the fresh eggs. I have found this site to be extremely useful in helping me to get started. We started our small flock with 6 ISA brown pullets and 6 black australorps, they...
