Mine are actually growing more little brown feathers I noticed them today when I was checking them over! This is the first time i've hatched Orloffs, I know a little bit about their history, but as far as colouring etc. I'm not so up to speed.
Hatch rate was about 70% this time around. New Bator - but I had to assist nearly all the chicks with hatching as I mucked up on the hatching date and didn't set the humidity higher for the last few days... Even to the point that the eggs hadn't pipped, but when I candled they had broken into...
I've also had a couple of silkies pass away mysteriously. No sour crop / no worms. They were in great condition, only young and nice shiny eyes etc. Just stopped eating and passed away. I tried everything to save them, but once they give up they give up. No real answers i'm afraid.
They are outside now - not with my big hens yet.. 4 have gone to a new home already and another 5 going this weekend. I'm keeping the rest (had another batch hatch 3 weeks after this one)
