    The crowing of a cockerel

Maybe they crow a little less with age, once they get their voice down, but it is still several times. I used a no-crow collar when I first decided to keep my roo and it did greatly reduce the volume. You have to be careful putting it on, as you want it tight enough that his airway can't expand...

What is the proper term for this color?

Blue? Lavender? Something else...? We hatched a few of our own eggs this spring and these fellows are about 14 weeks now and the product of a Danish Brown Leghorn hen and a wheaten colored Americana/EE rooster. Also, we plan on keeping one and giving away the other. The darker one in the...

Need to know breed on this hen!!

Normally you should start layer feed when pullets are about 18 weeks old so that egg production starts around 20-22 weeks for most breeds. Then allow oyster shells once they start laying. If they haven't laid yet, I might remove the oyster shells until they do. Maybe they just need a bit longer...

Are docile, layed back roosters easier to keep in one separate pen?

You can absolutely keep a coop of just roosters together. As long as they can't see the hens, there should be no more bullying than there is in a flock of just hens. If they can see the hens they may fight, but if there are no ladies around the fellows are usually pretty peaceful together. Of...

Are they located where many wild birds are nearby and possibly they have worms? In my area there are lots of wild birds and so my chickens need to be dewormed...

Need to know breed on this hen!!

Looks like a mutt ;) Probably Wayandotte/EE. They will often take a break from egg laying when stressed, especially after moving into a different coop than used to. May take her a few weeks. She could also be entering molt and may stop laying for a bit longer if so.

What is the proper term for this color?

Hatched out a few of our own eggs this spring, and these boys are about 14 weeks and the product of a Danish Brown Leghorn hen and a Wheaten Americana/EE roo. Wold this color be "blue"? Also, probably going to keep one but rehome the other, what traits would you look for in the one to keep? The...
