So sorry to hear yours aren't doing so great! My rooster actually ended up being just fine once he hit about 4 months old and runs around like a crazy man no problem. Back when I put up this post I think I was giving him 1/4 of a baby aspirin and it helped but at 20 weeks yours are likely bigger...
Thank you for the links, I'm hoping it's just a fluke! I might have an idea of who it came from because my one girl had a little gooky stuff on her back feathers. She seems to be acting normal but I am keeping a very close eye on her
please tell me this isn't a lash egg!! Just found it in the bedding on the bottom of my coop. All my girls are very young, 18 weeks and a few just started laying. I've heard it's more common in older birds so I'm really hoping it's not what it looks like. I will be devastated if I lose one of my...
Okay!! Another weird problem!! Since the egg I posted aboved I have yet to find another in the nesting boxes! It seems that they are laying while roosting on the roosting bar and the eggs are falling to the floor and cracking upon impact. I am guessing this because I am finding them cracked open...
I guess all I had to do was complain! Lol
Just went out to the coop for another check and found this little nugget sitting in the nesting box!
Since I am working from home today, the hens get to free range all day, I think my problem may lie on the days they stay in the coop and run all day...
Dang!! Culling isn't an option so I guess it's onto trying to find a solution... I really have to figure out what their routine is. The one hen makes lots and lots of noise all day so I keep running out there to see if anything happened and it always seems like either it's not happening yet or I...
One problem right into the next I swear!! So since that first soft egg I posted last week....I have yet to find another in the nesting box. I wasn't too worried about it since I know she's still really young and trying to figure it out, UNTIL a song bird egg fell out of a tree and I saw all 10...
Just an update on my situation, I believe I came to a decision, at least for now.
After a few days of the two boys in a bachelor pad separated from the hens and each other. Pumpkin the red rooster seems to be doing okay, he's not with the girls which he doesn't seem to mind and without being...
thanks for the help!! I already cleaned everything up and put some fresh hay in there. I haven't switched to layer yet since they are only 15 weeks and all of the other girls are less developed than she is. I will run out to TSC today to get some oyster shells for her!
We have an egg this morning!!!!....well kind of, soft shell and is torn open, do I need to worry that it tore inside her?? I've seen a couple people post about it causing infections
Thank you for the awesome tips!!! She is definitely doing the squatting thing when I pet her so I think I might be close!! I put a few golf balls in there like you suggested, so hopefully that helps too!
Thanks a bunch!
Thank you for the advice! That's interesting about the teenage rooster thing. I was thinking it would only progressively get worse from here. If I do keep pumpkin, would it make sense to keep him separate until the girls are mature enough and let him back in? I don't really plan on hatching any...
I am a first time chicken owner! I have a flock of 12, 10 hens and 2 roosters. I need some opinions on the roosters from some experienced chicken owners!
Here is Pumpkin, 15 week old Red Ranger (dual purpose/meat) He is very large and laid back, he barely ever crows so he's very quiet. Up...
Thanks for the advice! I am definitely keeping an eye on her.... But I checked her vent and just overall and I don't think egg bound...at least not yet based on the symptoms I saw online.
And definitely considering re-homing my roosters.... I thought mine would be an exception since I handle...
Thank you for the tip! She seems to be over all fine this morning, she's wandering around doing some squawking as if she's looking for something. She has access to the nesting boxes in the coop so I'm hoping for the best. I looked up egg bound and don't really see any of those symptoms yet but I...
