    Are the eggs still good?

Normally I would just toss them, but with this pandemic, you can’t buy eggs right now. They’re precious.

    Are the eggs still good?

Will it be obvious when I crack them?

    Are the eggs still good?

After hunting through the forest all day, I finally found my escapee hen’s ninja nest. But how do I tell if the eggs are still good? There were three, I know they can’t be more than 2 or 3 weeks old. Unless they’re months old, but a wild animal or bird would have found them by now. Does the...

    What breed is this Chick?

I’m fairly certain the pale color chick is a White Plymouth Rock. She’s really sweet, but I’m kinda bummed. I never wanted a white chicken. But she’ll be a good egg layer!

    Heat lamp or Heat plate?

I’m using a heat plate, but it seems liked it’s too hot. So I went back to a lamp (from the pet store) until the manufacturer gets back to me.

    What breed is this Chick?

I was suppose to get a Dominique and a Black Australorp. Because of covid19, I wasn’t able to go pick them out. These are what I got. The other 2 breeds they had are white Plymouth Rocks and Rhode Island Reds. The lady said all the Plymouth’s were bright white and the Rhodies were brown and very...

    Weak Dominique!

Histopathology results came back, Adenocarcinoma. Cancer. Most likely metastatic from the the reproductive tract, but could be only related to the liver. Either way, I feel validated in my decision to euthanize. She was incurable.

    Weak Dominique!

This was my first poultry necropsy, I've done several with dogs and cats. I did learn quite a bit more about chicken anatomy, which is great. We emptied approximately 1/2 liter of fluid from her abdomen. The "chunks" I show are both gelatinous and some bits that looked the old cooked egg. The...

    Weak Dominique!

With my limited knowledge of poultry anatomy, it was a good learning experience. She had a large amount of free fluid in her abdomen. Her liver was in bad shape, she had a large cyst near her vent. I’m going to send part of her liver to our lab for biopsy. Her gizzard was full of material, grass...

    Weak Dominique!

I am most likely going to euthanize her tonight. She is weak and not eating enough. Although still alert, she's just starving herself and it's not fair to keep her alive. I will perform a necropsy. But for what it's worth, here are the rads, like I said they aren't very good, (particularly the...

    Keeping chickens off the coup.

It started slowly with one, then over the course of a few months all but one of my hens are roosting on top of the coup and run. It’s messy, dangerous and hard on their joints when they get down. It got so annoying I gave up for now on pulling them down every night. I just want to prevent it...

    Weak Dominique!

I will try to get a pic of the X-rays today, they aren’t the best X-rays since I don’t work with birds at the clinic and our machine doesn’t have a poultry setting, so I used macaw. Is it possible to have egg yolk peritonitis and not pass bits of yolk in the stool? Her poops contain very little...

    Weak Dominique!

My favorite hen, Georgie :( She is one of seven hens. 3.5 year old Dominique. She’s eating and drinking, but not enough. Mainly she is weak. She she walks a little at a time, the sits/falls back on her butt. No discharge, no eye color change, no other symptoms. She does have a hard mass growing...

    Mass on rose comb

Anyone ever seen this? It started about a year ago and very slowly developed. She’s 3 years old.

    Results from lead tested egg

I found out a couple months ago that my chickens were eating lead pellets from my back yard. So I sent one egg from each chicken to a lab in Seattle. Unfortunately, only 1 of 7 eggs made it there safe. BUT, it was from the chicken I had confirmed a "lead eater" I have the results, but I can't...

HELP! LEADED EGGS!? EXTRA LONG POST! (X-Rays Included)

Is there any kind of digestive supplement or type of food I can feed to help move things along faster? OR anything that will detox the birds?
