Both roos had very large kernels/cores down in there, so they are missing a lot of the pads of their feet. It just seems so, like, gaping - like a gaping hole. They were deep too. I haven't smelled any odors, or see any odd discharge.
This has been a huge emotional drain. I need to just slow...
How long do we do this routine? The soaking, rebandaging, etc.? Everyday? For how many days?
They're still open wounds, will the soaking and the antibiotic ointment disrupt a scab from forming? At what point do we stop changing the dressings everyday? My husband said they will need dry bandages...
I forgot to mention that we took off the wrappings 24hrs after surgery, soaked their feet in betadine, sprayed them with Bannizz, applied non-adhesive gauze with triple antibiotic cream, and rewrapped their feet with vetrap.
It's been two days since both my roos had bumblefoot surgery (they are both 5 months old). We don't have avian vets where I live, so our surgical nurse neighbor removed both bumbles.
Their feet are wrapped. How do we clean their wounds now? Do I take the bandages off every 24-48hrs?
Then how...
Yes, hens can become over-mated, and can develop stress conditions, vent issues, and decreased laying.
A friend of mine had a hen that was extremely favored by the boys, and the poor girl ended up with several patches of missing feathers, and bald spots, all along her rear end and her saddle...
We ended up culling our chick. :(
After 7 days of feeding/watering her manually every 2 hours - we never saw her drink on her own, and only saw her eat on her own twice - we realized that she was only half the size of her other hatch mates. We felt that we really tried everything, but in the...
Thanks all, appreciate the warm welcome :)
As an update to our sick chick, she is still alive, but I am still having to feed her every 2hours because she simply will not eat or drink on her own. There is an improvement in the fact that she is not just standing with her eyes closed all the time...

I'm new as well, but if you saw her new a compost pile, could she possibly have eaten some fermented/rotting compost/food? I've heard it can make a chicken quite sick, and drunk. I've also heard that liver failure can occur from the fermentation. Like heavy alcoholics. Just a thought...
Hello BYC,
I need some advice on a chick that took a downturn yesterday:
I noticed one of our 4-5 day old blue Cochin bantams has not been eating or drinking, and became extremely lethargic, many times just standing with her eyes closed. I found her standing in her water a couple times also...
