I am late to the original post but had to share! I incubated 15 eggs and hatched 13 yesterday! One of the original showed no development at 2nd candling and the other didn’t make it out of the shell. Seems it rolled toward the water under the grate and couldn’t get air. I feel successful with...
We have 10 baby chicks! Our classroom incubating project has been a success. First time using my incuview incubator in my 4th grade classroom. I originally set 20. We have a few left in the incubator that have pipped but they have had no movement for a while. I am not comfortable with assisted...
Setting eggs in my 4th grade class today! This is my 3rd year doing this project. I bought a new incubator this year, an IncuView all in one egg incubator. This is my first time using it. All eggs are from my own flock of Barred Rocks.
I used nutri drench on all of these at home and have them in a makeshift brooder for now. When I left work 3 were zipping.
What can I do to clean these few chicks up. Can I do anything about their butts
We are on day 21 of our classroom hatch
We have had 5 eggs hatch and 4 more that have zipped.
We have had issues with our humidity throughout the entire incubation period.
All eggs that have hatched are not fluffing up and are showing varying degrees of yolk sac infection.
Is there...
I do realize we put too much water. I am curious is there is anything I can do to remedy that? I don't see how I can easily remove the water without causing a disruption to the eggs.
Any ideas?
I have a Hova Bator incubator set up in my classroom with 22 eggs. Yesterday was day 10. I realized that we may have put too much water at the last water check and the incubator was reading 85% humidity today as well as yesterday afternoon.
We candled yesterday and my air cells are the same...
I am a 4th grade teacher. This is my 2nd year incubating in my classroom. I set 22 eggs yesterday. We hope for a May 17th -18th hatch date. I used eggs from my personal flock of barred rocks.
We will be candling on May 2nd!
My class is very excited. Count us in for our hatch along.

Count us in then! I teach 4th grade and will be using my eggs from my chickens this year. I have a mix of brama, barred rock and few golden wyndotte. Our rooster is a barred rock though. Will be interesting to see the mixes that come out. Our broody hens have mostly been our barred rocks.
:)...
I would like to participate but want to know if I can set ends the Friday or Thursday March 3rd or 4th. I am a teacher and would like the eggs to hatch during the school week.
I successfully hatched chickens in my class last year, I think this may be a fun contest for my class to be a part of.
This is very interesting! I also buy a lot of fruit and didn't think of making my own vinegar. Currently I can fruits and jams and make my own marinades but have never attempted this. Thanks for the idea! We usually just toss fruit pieces into the compost bin or let our chickens snack on them.
Thank you! I do feel very lucky. I don't think I want to risk that again though. I will be reading up on your methods :) Thank You so very much.
My kids are still very excited and we had a talk this morning about how the life cycle includes life and death. I am glad though that they were not...
