Hi all! I'm so egg-cited to join you! This is my first time incubating so I'm sure I'll have tons of questions. Just got a GQF Genesis 1588 set up today, and a dozen serama eggs ready to go in tomorrow morning!
2/3 laying today. I'm finally starting to be able to tell Martha and Rose's eggs apart. Donna's are lighter, almost pink. Hoping Clara starts laying soon!
3/3 today! One this morning, two in the afternoon. Let them out to free range a bit and scattered a bunch of sunflower kernels I found cleaning out the pantry.
3 eggs out of 3 layers... The 4th is starting to finally get her comb but I don't expect eggs from her for at least another month (despite being 35+ weeks old)
1/4. Rose is the one who is laying, but Clara (who doesn't squat and still has a tiny pink comb at 35 weeks - she's also the "outsider" hen) is the one who was singing egg song this morning!
Oh I dont plan to give much scratch. The kids like to give treats though so I let them have a handful of scratch or mealworms during our after-school egg check.
1/4 again. All 4 disappeared into the coop earlier and I was hopeful... checked when they came out and nada... then 2 went into the coop a few hours later, my laying BO and my stubborn barred rock.... checked when they came out and one egg. 99% sure it was my orph again.
They gotta lay...
1/4 again today. I swear the other two are just driving me nuts... They squat, bright red combs, nice wide hips and vents are moist and ready... Nothing. They are in a 10x10 enclosure so they aren't hiding them!
I check for eggs whenever I let the dogs out and now as soon as I let the dog out...
