Ok friends....one of my mutt chicks looks like a creature! What kind of chicken is this? Pretty sure he's a Lil roo.3 weeks old.
This little one is 2 weeks old and was sprouting tail pin feathers at 1 week...hoping female on this one...what do y'all think?
They look like girls to me!! Are they "squatting" when you approach them? You may have said and I missed it. After my girls did the famous "squat of maturity" it was a week before the first egg. Beautiful birds.
Left is definitely a pullet....jury is still out for me on the other...looks like a little roo but I had a female with a similarly irregular spot. Do you have pics of their legs and feet?
I would think at 11 weeks any males would be showing larger, pink combs. I have 2 BR pullets that are 13 weeks and they still have small yellow combs..the neighbor has one the same age with a much larger much pinker comb...I can't really tell in the pictures...woukd need close ups of the combs.
Yeah....I understand that...but look at Red star chicks...IF she could be considered as such (which she cannot) she looks just like a female.I took a look at her wings since she is still young enough and there is a definite stagger in the feathering...but I am also aware that wing sexing doesn't...
What about these little ones? Daddy is a RIR/WLH...red chicks momma is a red star black chicks is a BSL but has feathered feet, so crossed with something. If the sex linking genes hold true in 2nd generations I'd say these are both girls.....what do you guys think?
One week
One day
So here's one for you guys....my two hatchlings...black a week old red a day old. The black ones momma is a BSL with feathered feet....so she is obviously crossed with something and dad is a RIR/WLH mix....red one's momma is a red star....same dad. I know they are mutts but what do they look...
Ok new friends....first off thanks so much for all the help over the past few days! Now that baby has hatched when should I give her to momma hen who has her week old sibling? I'm worried that week old baby is too far ahead and the new kid will be ignored. Thoughts?
Got the humidity up to 70.....Chick has pipped and made a hole but isn't doing much else. I keep reading about drying membranes and such.....which membrane is the one that shouldn't look white? The membrane I can see is the one right under the shell. I am at work now and I really want to be home...
Nervous. Freaking. Wreck. Some may remember my hen Pipsqueak hatched a beautiful chick last Monday....due to an accidental stagger she had another developing embryo that we had to pop in a makeshift incubator last Wednesday. Today is day 18 and when candled before lock down I had a clear...
Mama and baby are doing great! This little one has feathered legs! I asked the girl who gave me the eggs and she said she has one hen that is solid black with feathered legs but was told she was a BSL like her others...I am feeling pretty safe to say that either that hen is crossed with...
And we have a baby....last night around midnight when I got home I went to check and this little fluffy butt was all dried off and warming under mama. Now I have to figure out what to do with the other egg that is super alive but isn't due til next Wed.
