    Turkey Ivomec Dose

I've been dealing with a sick-ish turkey (it's been hard to pin down exactly what's wrong. I dosed him Aug 21st with 0.5cc Ivomec 1% on the back of his neck. Today, his head started turning, so it IS black-head. I want to give him another doze of 1% orally but can't seem to find a dosage...

    Paralysis & Death

Thanks! Very glad I have them Qted still. I'll keep them in QT a few more weeks and see how things progress if it's Mareks, we're going to have to just cull :\

    Paralysis & Death

Has anyone had mareks that doesn't present with the one leg forward, one leg back? because none of my chickens have shown that symptom at all. We have double-leg paralysis only in the very late stage. They all seem really healthy again, which is part of the frustrations, they don't seem sick...

    Paralysis & Death

Anyone on today who might have an idea? It certainly be something common manifesting in a weird way. Once again this morning all the affected chickens look bright eyed & healthy.

    Paralysis & Death

No respiratory symptoms at all. I have done quite a bit of research and it doesn't look like any common poultry disease. I'm not ruling it out as something common that has shown up in a different way, but it's very strange. Which also has me very concerned it's not a "normal" poultry...

    Paralysis & Death

Okay this has been going on for a few weeks so I'll try to cover everything. Late July bought some silkies at auction, QTed 2 weeks, seemed very healthy so placed them into the coop in our chick area (which is separated from other chickens by fencing) b/c I tried them with the main group & they...

    Dead Hen

Lost of my favourite hen this morning, which really sucks. She was 7/8 months old, seemed perfectly healthy except I noticed last night her comb had flopped over. Didn't seem like a big deal as it was quite long. Other then that I didn't notice ANY other symptoms but I've been sick all week so...

    What killed our chick?

Quote: Also very possible! And we have 3 juvenile turkey in there; but the chicks have a VERY protective momma & a creep to run into if the other birds get nasty.

    What killed our chick?

I'm really worried about setting the trap and getting some of our very curious poultry caught in it :S. I'm also really worried it was a rat, we have TONS of mice in the barn, chicks are easy prey, but whatever it was got into the run (not hard, part of the fence is down a bit) and then into...

    What killed our chick?

Nope, was in the coop so no foot prints. Going to investigate tonight. We don't keep any food in the coop at all (chickens are fed at night & usually clean up before lights-out). I'm just glad whatever it was didn't get my favourite roo chick :S.

    What killed our chick?

I've got photos I'll post after I'm done feeding, but I found one of our 6 week old chicks dead in the coop. He's got a lot of injuries to his head, very red & missing feathers, as well as several small 'bite' marks to his left leg and it looks like whatever it was bit through that leg at the...

quail with swollen leg *Ingrown Leg Band*

Trying holding her in a towel, I'd be more worried about getting that thing off right away. Once it's off, I'd spray the area with something antibacterial or really a wound sealing spray would be best. That is why I use the expandable wrap-around leg bands.

    Muscovies laying in Winter!

Mine are all around 6 months old and just starting laying, but they live in our coop with the chickens & they're all on a 15 hour light cycle, so they should be laying ;D

    Ducks won't go to bed

I had the same problem for a few weeks! We have some very warm weather and the party ducks decided they didn't want to come in any more . The only thing that changed their minds was having a predator come in (that eventually took their goose companion) and they elected to start coming in the...

Can you feel a stuck egg? or is it something else?

Update: She's fine!! I set her in front of the fire, trimmed her bum feathers, and let her have a nice nap. She had a HUGE poop and is now wandering around the house looking for the other chickens. I think it was more the warmth of the fire, then the bath that did it, but I would definitely...

Can you feel a stuck egg? or is it something else?

If she has mites I certainly can't see anything, her backside is pretty bare from moult. ETA: and she's the only one in the coop with raised shanks (I mean at ALL, they are all very flat) so it was probably the bath A few of the feathers seem to be poking her inside the vent. I don't know if...

Can you feel a stuck egg? or is it something else?

Just noticed the shanks on her legs are risen. Could she have mites? Or is it from the bath... ?

Can you feel a stuck egg? or is it something else?

She's not getting any better so I gave her a little bath. I'm not sure if she was drifting off because it was warm or dieing of stress... 'nway she's cuddled up by the fireplace now and we'll keep an eye on her. It's not really looking good though.

Can you feel a stuck egg? or is it something else?

She's not very used to being handled, I'm not sure a warm bath wouldn't hurt more then it would help. She's already pretty stressed out from just being in the house, but that is a good idea, I'll try it later if she doesn't get better. She doesn't really seem interested in food at all in the...

Can you feel a stuck egg? or is it something else?

ETA: UPDATE, she's fine. I've got a red star of undetermined age, probably closer to old then not. She's either is molting or is about too (lots of lost feathers) I'm not sure if she is one of the girls laying or not. (we got a big group of older chickens from a friend in the last few...
