Hen dead or missing after dog attack

OMG, never mind, she's alive! My neighbor found her! She was hiding in his backyard where the dog came from. Happy Ending! She seems pretty fine other than missing feathers.

Hen dead or missing after dog attack

I just got home and found feathers all over my chicken run and four of my five chickens hiding in the coop. I can't find the fifth one. I'm assuming she got eaten by the dog. I'm just surprised that I don't even see her feet or anything left. But I guess a big dog does the job pretty thorough...

Broody and chicks: am I doing this right?

"..she could get by on her looks.."!! :lau She really is beautiful though, smart girl! And that is the sweetest picture with your husband!! Now I want one even more. Let's see what the poultry future holds for me. :) Oh and meanwhile:

Broody and chicks: am I doing this right?

Oooh, you have a mille fleur!! I just read about them and how friendly they are. They lay the little eggs, don't they? I wish I could add on to my run and I would have all kinds of breeds. :love

Broody and chicks: am I doing this right?

We'll I am new to this as well, but I think in general you try to let momma hen and chicks have their own area and when they're ready, mom will introduce them to the flock. However, I didn't separate my hen and chicks, since mom is such a bossy hen. She's the leader and my other 2 hens didn't...

Broody and chicks: am I doing this right?

I might put up a little separation inside the coop. She's blocking the whole entrance, lol.

Broody and chicks: am I doing this right?

Oh interesting! See, I didn't even know I would have to do that. She's inside the coop and there's a ramp and I thought she would guide them down when it's time. My other 2 hens don't even dare to come close to the coop. I hope she will let them roost tonight. I didn't think I would have to...

Broody and chicks: am I doing this right?

Things are looking good so far. just have to see about my other 2 hens. They don't even come close to the coop, lol. I made a 2nd nesting box for them to lay their eggs. Hope all is peaceful over at your place @bawkbawkbawk

Broody and chicks: am I doing this right?

Haha, the mother ship is the cutest!! Yeah, I can't really separate mine so well either, but she's the absolute boss. I don't think my 2 other hens will challenge her. I THINK she's a barred rock. She's been broody before, but I couldn't add chicks at that time. Now I was ready for it and just...

Broody and chicks: am I doing this right?

I read as much as possible about this whole adoption thing before I did it, but didn't find anything on what to do with the eggs. I was afraid she might see the chicks as intruders if all eggs disappear at once. I will remove them now. Thanks!!

Broody and chicks: am I doing this right?

No, they're not fertilized. So I take them out? Probably when it gets dark, so she won't get too riled up..?

Broody and chicks: am I doing this right?

So far everything seems fine. I can't see the chicks though, but don't want to interrupt. All is quiet and she puffs up when I look inside. I just hope she will let them eat and drink. I put it all close to them. I took 2 of the 4 eggs out when I put in the chicks. Will she leaves the nest with...

Broody and chicks: am I doing this right?

Yes, it was dark. I just checked very quick and all is quiet and I don't see the chicks, so I hope they're sleeping underneath. Fingers crossed!!

Broody and chicks: am I doing this right?

I just introduced 2 baby chicks to my broody hen and I am a nervous wreck! She's 2 weeks broody and only got off the nest once a day for 20min max. I just put them underneath her when it was dark and closed the nesting box. I stayed for 10 min and everything was pretty quiet, just a few soft...
