OMG, never mind, she's alive! My neighbor found her! She was hiding in his backyard where the dog came from. Happy Ending! She seems pretty fine other than missing feathers.
I just got home and found feathers all over my chicken run and four of my five chickens hiding in the coop. I can't find the fifth one. I'm assuming she got eaten by the dog. I'm just surprised that I don't even see her feet or anything left. But I guess a big dog does the job pretty thorough...
"..she could get by on her looks.."!! :lau
She really is beautiful though, smart girl! And that is the sweetest picture with your husband!! Now I want one even more. Let's see what the poultry future holds for me. :)
Oh and meanwhile:
Oooh, you have a mille fleur!! I just read about them and how friendly they are. They lay the little eggs, don't they? I wish I could add on to my run and I would have all kinds of breeds. :love
We'll I am new to this as well, but I think in general you try to let momma hen and chicks have their own area and when they're ready, mom will introduce them to the flock. However, I didn't separate my hen and chicks, since mom is such a bossy hen. She's the leader and my other 2 hens didn't...
Oh interesting! See, I didn't even know I would have to do that. She's inside the coop and there's a ramp and I thought she would guide them down when it's time. My other 2 hens don't even dare to come close to the coop. I hope she will let them roost tonight. I didn't think I would have to...
Things are looking good so far. just have to see about my other 2 hens. They don't even come close to the coop, lol. I made a 2nd nesting box for them to lay their eggs.
Hope all is peaceful over at your place @bawkbawkbawk
Haha, the mother ship is the cutest!! Yeah, I can't really separate mine so well either, but she's the absolute boss. I don't think my 2 other hens will challenge her. I THINK she's a barred rock. She's been broody before, but I couldn't add chicks at that time. Now I was ready for it and just...
I read as much as possible about this whole adoption thing before I did it, but didn't find anything on what to do with the eggs. I was afraid she might see the chicks as intruders if all eggs disappear at once.
I will remove them now. Thanks!!
So far everything seems fine. I can't see the chicks though, but don't want to interrupt. All is quiet and she puffs up when I look inside. I just hope she will let them eat and drink. I put it all close to them. I took 2 of the 4 eggs out when I put in the chicks. Will she leaves the nest with...
I just introduced 2 baby chicks to my broody hen and I am a nervous wreck! She's 2 weeks broody and only got off the nest once a day for 20min max. I just put them underneath her when it was dark and closed the nesting box. I stayed for 10 min and everything was pretty quiet, just a few soft...
