Thankfully I contacted Cackle Hatcheryto ask about shipping that was showing the 16th, in 5 days! So on chat I was told that tracking was sometimes off then she said that actually the flight was cancelled due to weather. I asked what was happening to the chics,,she said they were trying to go...
So 32 babies arrived today, 2 seem a little weak but are improving,,I'm using the 250 heat lamp on one side and a ceramic inferred on the other,,they are spread out and all looks well BUT the Ohio brooder still scares me,,with the bulb and the possibility of fire,,not sure how this is safer than...
yes, thank you! The ceramic inferred things actually came with a digital thermometer so I've been leaving it on the floor in various places underneath the brooder but will check with an old school thermometer too,,
Buffalo! It's currently 21 degrees with lake effect snow,,which in the recent years, has been considered a "winter weather advisory",,but used to just be winter! The temp was reading around 81 degrees but I know that has little do with end results,,I also think a few heat shields is in...
So as a midway, pre-chick update I decided to make a 4x4 Ohio brooder with two lamps,,currently with 250w red heat and a 100w ceramic infared,,experimenting to see how the heat stays,,I also enclosed two sides of the brooder for more heat initially that will be removed later,,I probably put a...
I thought I had max'd out with chickens and then all of a sudden BLAMMO! I decided I needed some more babies..I currently have 15,,a mix of brahmas, EE's, orps, and a bantam cochin roo. I have two coops that I built that are both connected with a hoop house between so they can enter in the...
It seemed like the two together would be good,,now I'm getting into the Ohio brooder thing,,which would allow for even more and I have plenty of materials,,but I do like the mama pad set up,,always like that when you try something new
interesting note,,the sweeter heater is 11x30 recommended for 20-50 chicks, so maybe 2 pads set up side by side like your post would be sufficient ,,I'll give it a try and have a back up plan very handy
I definitely like your set up,,I have two pads so it would be a total of 2x4' of heating space, which would be maybe 30 chicks,,so its does seem more economical to try an Ohio or stick with a lamp. I assume the large dog heating pads wouldn't be warm enough
Hello, I know there are a thousand and one threads but I am looking for specific info regarding size (I purchased 2 xl sunbeam pads) to the number of chicks it will accommodate.
I have 50 Babies arriving mid Feb, I will be raising them in a cold warehouse space in Buffalo NY and would prefer not...
