I have the SAME problem. Got 4 Cobbs, not knowing they're meat industry birds. Mine are only 7 weeks but are pretty big already and I'm struggling with deciding if I should put them out if their misery before they start to suffer or what. I have no interest in eating them and thouht maybe i...
I suspected the same thing. Their heads and beaks look nothing like the silkie babies I'm seeing in online photos. I got them from tractor supply and they were labeled as bantam silkies.
Awww so sorry for Zelda :(
You're a good chicken momma. They aren't disposable birds, they're family and friends... I totally get it.
Your girls are beautiful!
My silkie babies look much less fluffier than everyone else's.
They're about 4 weeks old.
If I guessed right by looking at wing feathers (guessed right with the 4 Cobb's), the black one is a boy and the other 2 are girls?
I'm trying to figure out the exact breed of my 4 oldest chickens. My kids grandparents got them chicks for Easter from a local Mennonite farm. They say they're Cobb.
We have no interest in using them for meat, so trying to take the best care of them to prolong their life.
We just lost one from that. It was my 5 year olds favorite.. Only 3/4 weeks old. She was fine... Then all of a sudden got weak and started falling over, just standing chirping, couldn't walk steady.
The poop was very hard and enormous. We soaked her for days and days, no sooner did we get her...
Gahh stupid button
Frozen watermelon to let them peck at, but mine are picky.. Thy won't eat fruit or veggies as snacks. They only want meal worms aside from their feed and grit.
When they hear the bag shake, they try to fly up and snatch it.
I wonder if those Kong balls for dogs would work...
I'd like to know too... Mine play with anything that I put in.. Like food and water bowls. They try to drink water from a watering can sprinkler, pluck all the dandelions out of the ground and run around with them and steal it off of each other.
I've heard of people tying fruit and vegetables...
Ivermectin is very hit and miss. Especially with the resistance from over use.. But its still my go-to to the horses. Nothing gets rid of threadworm in their necks better than ivermectin.
Most impossible nematode infections can't survive ivermectin/albendazole treatment combos. Its just...
If it was me personally, I would probably do ivermectin first, then reasses.
Albndazole would be my first choice as a regular scheduled dewormer, but only because I have tons of the sheep drench already.
It could be a die off reaction.
I'm a chicken noob, but a parasite expert.
When treating with meds and killing off a worm load, toxins, bacteria and viruses that parasites carry are released that will make one sick. Also, dead worms can cause a blockage, so you'll want to keep an eye out and...
My sister in law had a bird nest in a wreath that she had on her guest bedroom window and the bedroom became infested with bird mites. They used DE and a steam mop.. And not only completely eradicated the problem, but also saved the carpet and most of the furniture. I think the bed and pillows...
We lost our tiny black silkie last night from the same thing. She was fine, only eating starter crumble, grit and water... Then BAM, her poop got hard and stuck. Multiple soaks got rid of marble sized pieces, I tried to flush her out with a few drops of molasses water, more soaking her butt...
