    Dog Attacked Chicken! Help!

They are in the coop now?  And you did have a pic? I cleansed the wound and then separated her from the other. I forgot to take a picture but will in the morning. It is weeping a bit after being cleaned but not bleeding and the other chicken wasn't pecking that I could tell but I wanted to be...

    Dog Attacked Chicken! Help!

Thank you so much for the information! I really appreciate it! The feathers hide it well but I will watch it carefully and maybe even buy some blue coat just in case. Thank you thank you!!!!

    Dog Attacked Chicken! Help!

She calmed down. The opening is shallow and not very large. Maybe half an inch at most. I have some wound cleanser at home I was thinking of using to try and just keep it clean. I have put her in the coop but she seems able to move around with ease.

    Dog Attacked Chicken! Help!

My dog attacked my chicken! It is okay but is okay. Mainly my concern is about a laceration to her back. Some flesh is open and what seems to be her adipose tissue (fat) is showing. Does anyone have any experience treating chicken wounds?! I can post pictures!

"Teenage Chickens" When to Start Feeding Table Scraps

I gave them some veggies and they weren't too into that. They just let it go to waste, but maybe it was too much for them at this point. We have tons of small gravel and I see them eating that right now, so I assume they are getting their grit? I may try a small amount of bread tonight as a...

"Teenage Chickens" When to Start Feeding Table Scraps

My chicks are now fully feathered and about 8 1/2 weeks of age. They are free roaming the yard and eating their starter feed and whatever else they can get their beaks on. When do you guys suggest we start giving them table scraps? Mostly vegetables. The gentleman at the feed store recommended...

How long to use starter feed and best feeds thereafter?

Fellow chicken parents, how long did you feed your chickens starter feed? I've read to use it for the first four weeks and then move to adult feed. Is it okay to then feed them scraps as well? Also, what adult feeds do you prefer and why? Thank you!

    First Time Chick Mama

Good tip! I'm slowly weaning them from the heat lamp now. We are in Western Colorado and the temps here are rising steadily so I hope to have them in the coop in a month. However, based on size I know they will have to be moved to a larger space. They are growing so fast!

    First Time Chick Mama

When I was young we had chickens on my parents ten acres that I helped to feed and I loved watching them and so when I moved in with my boyfriend last year, I decided this was my time to get chickens. We live in the city but have a sizable yard with a tall privacy fence and plenty of bugs :). I...
