So I got a small flock of about 10 six month old hens an pullets...5 WLH 3 Polish 1 silkie 1RIR. 1 pullet got sick 7 days ago so I seperated her an started giving her antibiotics an vitamins did not cull. Everyday sense then a bird a day has gotten sick an I seperated her from the main coop. So...
PapaChez...Thats funny lol...I agree, chickens are jus like us humans we have our good days an our bad days.... then add hormones, some lady friends, an breed gentics. Then your roo is 10ft tall an bullet proof.....
And I guess it helps also if your family are very hands on with your flock an a new roo so they wouldn't see you as something trying to harm them. Then the roo wouldn't have any reason to attack yall unless it's a agresive breed
Chickens are very curious might be scared when it moves with them the first few times l. But I think in no time they'll be pushing each other in it. Think it a good idea
You could try hiring a local handy man. Or a local contractor. Tell them what you want an they build it to your needs. No worry bout shipping or none of those headaches
I got a light that I bought at a dollar general store. One of those as seen on t.v things. It's an led light with a sensor that 4 AA batteries an has a motion sensor only comes on at night when there is movement an goes off after afew min when there is no movement. Paid 13$ light an batteries...
I have a tin roof on my coop just make sure you put some kind of heat barrier. Between the tin an chicks like wood, or a radiant heat wrap. I used the wrap it looks kinda like bubble wrap made outa tin foil keeps heat out in summer an heat in in winter.
They got good shade an I know if I'm hot they're even hotter......is that why they are walking around with there beaks half open cause they hot trying to cool off?
Quick question BYC members.
So summer is upon us. It's been in the 90s this wk with 100% humidity. I've been noticing afew of my chickens walking around with there mouths open. I figure that they are trying to cool off. Is that true or is it another reason they are doing that.
Thankx
That is true treats are a great bribe I did a call while I was feeding mine treats. Now when I do it they come running. Chickens are smarter than people think.
I jus relied your other question idk how much heat a chicken can take. But you can put ice in there water to help them out. I read alil ago that somebody gets a can of whole corneal corn an an gets the corn out puts it in water freezes it like a ice cube an the chicks have a cold treat to peak...
You might want put them in a cage beside the coop were the older cicks can see them for acouple days so they can get use to them, or you can put them in the coop an see how they do sense neither group is very old. If you try just putting them in the coop keep a close eye on them bc chickens do...
Me, I would wait acouple more wks because there grit intake is so little an you stand the chance of them not being able to process it good enough. If you do give them treats only in moderation I wouldn't let them gouge themselves. Look in the learning center there is a topic on Socializing Your...
They might still be alil to young to process certain things since there grit intake is not alot so they would not be able to break it down an process it. Could be dangerous right now sense they are so young. I would maybe wait afew more wks to try them on different stuff. My ladies are won't...
You can go to the learning center an go to Deciding to Free Range your Flock. There is some very helpful info on how to get your chicks to come back every night. You'll have to put them in there coop an run an not let them out for about 2wks, Put there food an water inside coop. They will get...
