Thanks everyone, respiratory issues were exactly what I was worried about. But then I saw someone post about incense and citronella around chickens, so it made me wonder. We won't be trying that. We'll work on more insulation in and around the coop. We live in a very cool climate, and heat...
Our ladies demand to be let out of their coop at sunrise. They do so by calling very, very loud. We have close neighbors and live in an area where chickens are no so much legal, so we do all we can to keep them quiet. In this case, it means jumping out of bed at 5 am.

Ditto.
I agree.
I would have thought a happy ending is where the fox was foiled by a secure run, gave up and left. Chickens and fox live another day.
Agreed.
Keep calling animal control and your local humane officers. Besides all the awful chicken stuff, it's illegal in CA to keep a dog chained. if your animal control officers ignore that law, feel free to contact me so I can get you in touch with the right people.

Are CD's or windsocks working for anyone? I just looked out the window and saw all my ladies frozen in place and looking up. I couldn't see anything so I went out to check and there it was - a huge hawk sitting on my roof checking out the chickens. I put the chickens back in their coop to...
We didn't smell anything until my husband looked right down her open beak. This morning her crop felt small and soft, but we will check again this afternoon and massage it, and treat it like sour crop to see if that makes a difference.
Any other ideas? They all have ACV in their water.

Really? There are no symptoms of swelling, wheezing, sneezing, nasal discharge, conjunctivitis, or eyes glued shut.
By "sleepy eye" i mean her eyes look tired. There's not "sleep" or crust in her eyes. Nasal passages look clear. No discharge, no sneezing.
We have a pullet who started displaying weird symptoms on Sunday. Every 60 seconds or so, she opens her mouth partway but doesn't do anything. She has also started moving more slowly than normal, and just acting a little tired, but will pep up when we go to round them up or offer treats...
