To answer your question, they are about 3/4 full grown. They’re doing a bit better now that I brought her and her friend home and she’s had some time to settle in, I’m going to try and spend real day outside with her and see what happens. Thanks!
Curious to hear some thoughts/advice about this.
I got a message last night from someone telling me that their neighbor got silkies and put them in with their other chickens, including some very aggressive roosters. They were getting picked on so badly that she was afraid they were going to be...
It just happened like less than hour ago. I'm thinking she might feel better once she's calmed down a little bit and then she can see if she's really injured.
Update: my friend texted me and said she tries getting her to stand she flops down and almost does a somersault attempting to stand up. She also seems like she may be in shock.
My best friend who also raises chickens just had one of hers get attacked by a hawk. There's no visible wounds or blood but it came down on her back pretty hard and she can only stand with support. It seems like it may be her back and neck area that's the problem but otherwise she's fine. She...
Thank you both! I'll look into those articles. I'd really like to keep her if possible, so hopefully when I get her back I can find a way to make it work.
So, I have an interesting situation. About 4 weeks ago, I went outside to check on my chickens to find 2 hawks in the pen with them. I had no idea what to do, but as I ran toward the pen I spooked them and they flew away-with my favorite silkie, Mabel in one of their talons. She's the...
Thanks for all the info. This hen was actually the most dominant, and none of my other chickens would even consider messing with her. I did look up acute fowl cholera and it mentioned something about the possibility of it being obtained by being in contact with wild birds or predators...we had...
This morning I went outside to feed my silkies and one of them was laying in her nesting box with her head tucked underneath of her, dead. She seemed perfectly fine yesterday and I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the cause of this could have been? Thanks.
I picked up two new silkies this morning, both pullets. Normally I get chicks very young and they stay clean, so ive never had to deal with a dirty pullet before. When I got them they have poopy feathers and smell. Im guessing theyre like 3 and a half months old. Should i give them a bath...
I live in Lancaster County and am looking for two silkie pullets with unique/pretty colors like lavender and porcelain. Preferably close enough for a local pickup. My favorite little splash silkie passed away yesterday morning and now I'm only down to two chickens and they need some new buddies!
My girls got all their favorites today-watermelon, a few wineberries and romaine lettuce. Unfortunately one of my silkies thought my nail polish on my toes was watermelon. It was not a fun time for me and my feet. LOL
It's wineberry season and I've got a lot growing in my yard. The chickens aren't able to get to them but there were a few berries with lots of holes in them from bugs so my grandfather threw them in with my silkies. They're very picky when it comes to food but absolutely went crazy for them...
