    Looking a little scrappy?

I appreciate the response! I haven’t had chickens since I was a child, I don’t want to be nonchalant and miss something! Thanks so much!

    Looking a little scrappy?

My 3 girls are 21 weeks, and the first eggs were a few days ago. I’ve noticed my black Australorp Sasha is looking a little shaggy and not as smooth as my Easter egger and barred rock, I’m wondering if they all “struggle” a little as they mature? Changed to free-feeding layer crumble today, with...

    9 wks...Please say all 3 are pullets!

What a huge relief to hear everyone’s opinions—pullets! WHEW! It would be terrible to give up these girls.

    9 wks...Please say all 3 are pullets!

Why won't the site let me see the photo you posted? It says "You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action." :-(

Stay safe! Put your dogs in the closet! lol

    9 wks...Please say all 3 are pullets!

Thank you!!! It's all too clear that I love them WAY too much... But Chicken TV is a real thing, it's so relaxing to sit out there and watch them roam around eating spiders and things! And my friends just don't get it, that's why I love you all so much. :wee

    9 wks...Please say all 3 are pullets!

Thank you for the advice on letting them get on without a lamp, they spend so much time preening I wasn't sure if they were all grown in yet. ;-)

    9 wks...Please say all 3 are pullets!

I know it’s not 100% until they lay or crow, but I’m reaching the cutoff of when their breeder will take back any cockerels. I’ve learned so much lurking on this site, I’m hoping I haven’t worn out my welcome with my questions! So very thankful for your kind advice here, and generous sharing of...

Oh no! Are those pointy saddle feathers?!

Dear Alex, YES! That's the BR with the big beak! She is Maeve the Brave, sweetest thing ever... if I had to give her up I'll be so very sad... very glad to hear you think she's a "she"!

Oh no! Are those pointy saddle feathers?!

Your responses are so appreciated and have made me so relieved!! I love my three chicks so much, and I’m so stressed about one being a roo and having to go away. I’ll reach out at 9 weeks to get a consensus about the barred rock and EE!

Oh no! Are those pointy saddle feathers?!

8.5 week old black australorp with a teeny yellow comb, but suddenly her (his?) tail looks all stringy... anyone care to comment and put my mind at ease? Thank you all in advance for being such a fantastic and friendly resource! ❤️

    Too early to detect roos?

Thank you so much, and thank you for this awesome link! I’ll take everyone’s advice and check in at 8 weeks. Fingers crossed for girl (hen) power!

    Too early to detect roos?

A backyard breeder... But now I'm doubting her knowledge since Dear Prudence is apparently not even close to what this lady indicated, a blue wheaton lol. I really just hope they are pullets and healthy, so honestly if they are this I'll be thrilled. lol!

    Too early to detect roos?

Well, was hoping she would get some darker feathers in there. I have these (hopefully) hens as pets and egg layers, in that order, so of course I don't need a "show quality" hen! :-) I did prefer a blue or green egg layer so lets cross fingers for that! THANK YOU so much for your responses!

    Too early to detect roos?

Was it the green legs that made you say EE instead of Ameraucana? And will she get darker maybe? She looks a bit like hawk bait to me right now... :-(

    Too early to detect roos?

The head spot was symmetrical but blurry, the size of a nickel, there was faint black/grey on her legs, if this helps. There is only one of each breed, so the BR is all the same chick.

    Too early to detect roos?

Aw dang, sold to me as a 4 day old blue wheaton Ameraucana. :-/

    Too early to detect roos?

The Ameraucana is biggest, but a scaredy cat, and stomps on the others' heads when it's bedtime. :-/ Ameraucana is Dear Prudence BR is Maeve the Brave and the Australorp is Sasha, the Russian Ballerina, because of her beautiful long neck. I'm officially a chicken lady.

    Too early to detect roos?

Hi friends, I think I posted my question in the wrong place this morning from my phone, sorry if this is duplicated. I have 3 chicks, 5 weeks old tomorrow, a BR, a Black Australorp, and an Ameraucana... Can't have roos in the city and I'm so anxious because I'm very VERY attached to these...
