Hi Everyone! thanks for the interest:)
We actually only have about 30-45 birds on average (fluctuates as we loose some every year due to age or other wildlife). But we wanted to have lots of room so everyone could find a spot - plus we have 19 babies that are just starting to go out with the...
Hey ! I just posted what I built for my nesting boxes - we painted everything white too to help make the coop feel bright in the winter.

Hi all,
I just redid our chicken nesting boxes, and thought I would share!
Below are some photos of the coop. Each box is just a 2$ "dish bin" from the dollar store (this way we can remove and clean as needed - the bins are not actually attached, but resting on the bars). The wood for the...
Hi everyone!
I have a few chickies that are about 2 1/2 or 3 months old. Just wondering if yall can help me with what breed and gender they are. They were sexed at birth, but I think we got a couple roos in here

thanks everyone! that was what I was hoping - I just remembered that the local feed store had warned not to eat the eggs when I bought a few years back - but perhaps they were just overly cautious. I will call them in the morning just incase, but good to know if the only medication is amprollium...
Not quite an emergency, but I need help.
Last night my boyfriend accidentally put the medicated chick starter in with the adult chickens (not realizing). We only just noticed tonight (so about 24 hours with that food). There is about 30 chickens, and they went through about half a 30kg bag (i...
UPDATE: They are now just over a month old and some of them look very different! (And I think i have quite a few roosters, even though they were sexed at 90%, but I guess that is the luck of the draw - lets just hope they get along)

When they get older (if I remember) I will post photos of them just for those curious
And I just noticed the brown today too! Strange colouring for sure!
Thanks everyone! yall are always so fast & helpful!! Below are some questions/follow ups
Just out of curiosity, for #6, what colour ears belong to each of the white rock and white leghorn so I know what to watch for once she's older?
I have attached more pics of the comb for the 7th chicken -...
This weekend I finally got to the feed store and picked up my chicks (twenty, six of which are guinea fowl). That said, the guy who runs the place was not available, so I have no clue what I purchased - busted picked what looked cute and a bunch of yellow ones since my dad wanted yellow. I am...
Huh - learn something new every day :)
Thanks anyways... Hopefully this guy is friendly and gets along with the other roos otherwise we may have to find a new home for him
Darn it... That's what I was thinking too - just hoping that maybe one of the mom breeds might have a tendency to be larger with red combs early (because most of our hens do have red combs as adults), or that maybe the bantam from the father had a larger roll on the first hen then the second...
Hi all,
I was wondering if you could help me sex these chicks. We tried our luck hatching chicks this year and ended up with two little ones. The father is a missed breed which includes barred (little bit of bantam, and something else that gives him feathers on the sides of his legs). The mom...
Thanks for the comments so far! I was mainly just getting worried after reading stuff about colour sexing breeds that I may have ended up with both males...
here are some more of the chicks (Not sure if you can tell, but one has been slightly taller than the other sincr birth just about. Not...
Hi all,
Not sure if you can help me yet, but I am hoping to try and determine the cross breed in the chicks I just hatched last week (as well as sex if possible?). I know that the rooster was a barred rooster (I want to say barred rock, but he has feathers down the side of his legs, which...
Hi everyone,
This year I decided to allow my two bantam old english game chickens to hatch chickens. I gave each chicken 4 eggs (one started last Tuesday - 9 days, and the other last Wednesday - 8 days). I candled the 9 days one last night and discovered that two eggs were fertile, one had a...
Thank you for the advice. I tried again tonight with a super good LED light. Still all I could see was the yolk (today should have been day 8).
And so I got overly curious and stole and egg to crack inside. No fetus - only a smelly runny yolk. I dont think any of them are fertile :/
Tomorrow...
Hi everyone, justs looking for some guidance here. I have a bantam old english game chicken who had gone broody. After finding her underneath out coop 3 times and forcing her out, she finally started sitting on the nest inside, so we decided to let her keep it. She is fiercly protective. So she...
