    Bumblefoot????

Hi! My 2.5 year old buff Orpington has swelling around her toes and these weird growths on the side of her legs (almost like an extra toe). Is this bumblefoot and does it require surgery??? None of my chickens has had it before. Thanks!

Can piperazine be used in laying hens?

Hi, I've been getting some conflicting info over whether piperazine can be used in laying hens... Just wondering what everyone's opinion on this was. I already bought the piperazine and was going to use it on my 6 chickens when I read something saying not to use in in laying hens. I wouldn't eat...

    Isolation cage advice needed!

Well some new feathers are starting to come in in her back already, so I want to leave her there for as long as it takes for them to come in, and until her leg heals. She hasn't laid an egg at all in there... Should I be concerned about that? Is it just because of stress?

    Isolation cage advice needed!

What is the size and status of the coop? I ask, as once upon a time when coops were bigger than they are now, it was not uncommon to have a broody box placed inside the coop itself. Basically, a small cage of the type you show, but at roost level and off to one side. It kept them away from the...

How can I help my bullied chickens??

Whoops- just went outside to measure it and it's actually 24 square feet, plus another 4 square feet of nesting boxes extending outside the coop. I'm not worried about the coop being too small because they only go in there at night, how ever I am thinking of adding another level to the run to...

    Isolation cage advice needed!

[/IMG]Hi, Today I built an cage for one of my EEs to go in because she has a hurt leg (not sure what from, doesn't seem to be bumble foot) and needs somewhere to recover. She also has been picked on a lot by a bully chicken and needs some time to regain her feathers. I was wondering about how...

How can I help my bullied chickens??

The run is 60 and the coop is around 18... The run is covered too. They don't have a lot of things to keep them occupied but they get a lot of time outside their run in our backyard which is pretty large, and they forage around lots. I'll try to find more things to keep them busy with in the run.

How can I help my bullied chickens??

Thanks for the advice! I've made a cage to put one of my EE in, as she also has a hurt leg (not sure what it's from, doesn't appear to be bumble foot). I reinforced one of my chicken saddles to put on the other, as the snaps kept falling off it. Hopefully it'll stay on and allow her to heal...

How can I help my bullied chickens??

Hi, I have 2 EEs almost a year old, and ever since almost 10 months ago they've been extremely bullied. It started out as just a small bald spot on their backs and now they have almost no feathers left on their backs! They almost have no tail feather left either and their butts are quite raw...

    Bumble foot???

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out if my chicken has bumble foot... As you can see in the picture she has a brown scab in the middle of her foot that wouldn't come off when I rubbed at it with damp paper towel. I've never had a chicken with bumble foot so I don't know what to...

    Worms in chickens

Hi, I recently discovered small white worms in my chickens feces, and I'm not sure how to deal with it.. Some of the chickens had been looking lethargic so I'm guessing it's from that. I called a vet about an appointment and they said it would cost $90 just for the checkup which is obviously...

    Silkie rooster?

Which silkie do you think is a rooster? They're 7 months old and today I heard one crowing. I bought them unsexed. The black one is more developed but the white one seems to make a lot noise. Help![/IMG][/IMG][/IMG]

    First egg!!

One of my chickens laid her first egg today! I think it's a BO but it could also be an ee, silkie or cuckoo maran. What do you think?

    Mystery bully chicken

I have 2 BOs 2 EEs, 2 silkies and one cuckoo maran. They're 5 months old and haven't started laying yet. About 3 months ago I noticed a bald spot on the EEs back and posted about it here but it seemed to go away. Now it is very obvious though and they're not molting so it must be a bully...

    Easter Egger club!

That's terrible! My cuckoo maran is the sweetest in the flock after the buffs and seems pretty meek towards the others. I'll defintley keep an eye out though, thanks for letting me know.

    Easter Egger club!

My 2 10 week old Easter eggers (Myrtle and Tinkerbell) moved to the coop 2 weeks ago. They seem to be adjusting find but they both have bald spots on their backs! I am very confused by this because none of my other chickens have it and they are all the same age (my others are BOs silkies and a...

Chicks first night in the coop!

Its the first night in the coop for my 8.5 week old chicks! They've been off the heat lamp for about 2 weeks and its about 5 degrees celcius outside (I live in Canada). Will they be ok? They wont stop squaking!

    Silkie chick isn't growing!

When mine was about 3 weeks-1 month she suddenly had a growth spurt and is now the size of the other silkies! For some reason she is not as fluffy and her feathers are a bit brittle, I'm wondering if that's some sort of side effect as she was such a late bloomer. Just be patient, it won't stay...
