Mezleona: Haircuts seem like a good idea. I should give that a try! rdcowman: Do not worry! Care for them is essentially the same as it is for any chicken. As long as you have your girl ranging in a flock, she should not leave the others unless threatened by a predator.

My experience with Welsummers have been great! PROS: She is very pretty. I love her golden nape (back of neck) feathers. Her eggs are amazing! I love their dark color! She is a consistent and reliable layer. She is very predator-aware and free-ranges well. She always stays with the...

Review by '' on item 'Polish'

My Polish is enormously funny, but she does seem to suffer from some problems, may of which originate from her signature "hairdo" PROS: She is the funniest-looking chicken. The laughs she provokes make the troubles that her feathers cause her not quite as bad. I expected her laying to be...

Review by '' on item 'Easter Eggers'

My EE gives me little room to complain about her. PROS: Her eggs are SO beautiful and they catch the eyes of visitors frequently, and she is quite diligent in her laying practices. She is the most animated of my girls. Whenever I walk to the coop, she flies onto a perch on the side of...

Review by '' on item 'Barred Rock'

If I had to pick a favorite of my girls, it would CERTAINLY be my BR. Allow me to tell you why: 1) Since she was a chick, she has always been calm and handleable. She is great for kids who just cannot leave the house without petting a chicken. 2) Her laying has always been consistent and...

How can I Introduce an Eight Week Old Puppy to my Flock?

Hello all, I am adopting an eight week old standard labradoodle this upcoming weekend, and I am seeking advice on how to socialize him to my four banties. Two of them are fairly calm, but the other two scare easily and would become every vocal and flighty if the puppy approached them. I am not...
