Hi. Would you use antibiotics to treat for this type of condition? Or just neosporin. First two pics is before bath, second pic is after. Don't know what to do. Please help
The thing about my chicken is she is not yet a year so I believe they don't molt until after a year. The only thing I can think of is that I cut her feathers in that area maybe 4-5 days ago bc she always has poop stuck to her feathers there. Maybe my trimming made the others take notice of that...
This is what my chickens butt looks like but much worse. Any idea what it is? Or how to treat it??
First pic before bath. Second pic after bath.
Need help!!
What's weird is she is not low on the pecking order so I find it weird that they pecked her so much to create such a big scab.
Also, do you think she could have egg bound? I haven't inserted my fingers in her vent yet, but the swollen area is very soft. I would think if egg in there it might be hard. I guess I could see what I feel. Any thoughts?
Yeah not sure what is going on. Her vent seems fine, just bad swelling underneath. There is also what I se as a bad scab over some of area (black on picture). And then blue/green strings, like veins or possibly dead tissue??
I only have five chickens and a very big coop and[/IMG][/IMG] decent...
I just found my chicken with a very swollen butt. I think there might be poop stuck to swollen area. There is also a green color to the swelled area. It is right below vent. I just recently cut her feathers in that area to clean her up, but now the feather seem to be missing or with the...

Wow! I have never heard of that before. Is that an official breed? We don't care either way - she's a great chicken but just curious? She's doing a good job laying so far!
We took in 4 chickens from my son's kindergarten class and have been able to discover the breed of the other three except this one. Can anyone help in letting me know her breed? She is the first of the chickens to begin laying eggs. She's very inquisitive and a great chicken, but we don't know...
Thank you both - this is EXACTLY what I was worried about ... as soon as I let them out of the coop/run each day for their daily "free range" time, they run to our dogs water bowl and gulp down the water. It always makes me nervous, but they have been on the nipple waterers since very young and...
