My plan is to set eggs on May 3 for a late May hatch because I'm off from work on the 24th and 25th so I can be home for all the excitement! It will be the first time I've hatched in about 5 years! Cannot.Wait. :weee
My husband graduated from MVHS '91! We have a handful of friends there. My grandparents & great grands are from Saltillo, and I would always drive my grandma to shop at the MV Brookshire's. Lol! Small world, huh? Thanks for saying Hi!
I'm in Sulphur Springs! Haven't been on BYC in a while bc we moved to another town for four years and I've not had chickens since that time. I bought a coop yesterday, and soon I'll be dusting off my incubator and testing it for a functional status Hope everyone out there is doing well!
I've been refurbishing old furniture since 2012 when I sold my flock and moved into a neighborhood. I'm about to get a few chickens again, but plan to keep refurbishing. Who else enjoys this hobby, and what's your favorite method?
I prefer chalk paint and I make my own. Here is a the dresser...
Haven't been around BYC much since Caroline was born -- 8 months ago!! Can you believe that?! Those of you who were at the beginning of your pregnancies are now at the end ... Wow! Congrats, ladies! :)
yes...how is she. Mine shows no eye changes, no palpable tumors, she's still hungry & thirsty & perky. I've read a ton about Marek's & I don't think that's it...sure hope not. Her vent looks good & there is no hardness to her abdomen. Hmmm. Just wondering how your girl is progressing, Mum?
I know, but I've been too busy to play with our new site & I'm just on my phone which makes it more difficult. Between my uncle dying this week & just the everyday routine of taking care of my family, I've had to back burner Sophie. She's eating really well & seems perky other than doing exactly...
One of my EE hens is doing to same thing. I've seen this condition described here before but never paid any attn to the responses bc I've never had a chicken present this way. She is between 2-3 y old & was fine (flew up & pecked my hand day before yesterday when I was out feeding), never has...
Yay! I'm preordering/ordering mine right now!! I'm sad the cute lil chicks in front of the flag didn't make the cut...who ever took that pic deserves a thumbs up anyway! All te rest of my favorites made it! This contest was a super excellent idea. This will be the first year I've ordered a BYC...
Where did you obtain your stock, or have you been breeding these for generations at your place? Would you be willing to post a picture of their eggs? Thanks!
I don't know why, but a molting chicken gives me the heebee-jeebees! Considering I'm a RN & see things presumably WAY nastier than these pics, seems like this shouldn't bother me. I literally have chills!! Eeewwwwww!

Wow, that's harsh. My photo was of my two chicks that were hatched by my broody Cochin hen, in my own backyard. I am by no means a professional, I just take tons of photos and I happen to have a great camera!

I've just been looking for the thread to vote. Guess it's not posted yet...??? Will it be in a banner at the top of the Index? I want to be sure & see it/vote.
The only chickens I've ever successfully recovered from this was with triple antibiotic ointment. I'm sure Terramycin is probably even better. I used antibiotics in the water & lost every chick! Apparently it must be treated topically in conjunction with any other treatment you feel is suitable...

It's a small plastic zip tie/cable tie. I usually use small snips to clip them off, but we have a new baby so I've been sidetracked on my flock care.
How am I to remove a super tight leg band? It's not impeding circulation or walking, but I've obviously left it on too long for my snips to remove it. Does anyone have a creative & safe way to get this thing off?! Any personal experiences?
