    started laying again???

What's up with my chickens. Back in September of 2017 my chickens stopped laying. Not one egg in 4 1/2 months. Now all of a sudden in the last week, one or more of the chickens has started laying an egg a day.

    Stopped Laying????????

I've had my 4 Australorps for 2 1/2 years. They have always been great layers averaging about 3 to 4 eggs a day, EVERY day even through the winter here in North Carolina. All of a sudden for the last 2 months I'm only getting 0 to 1 egg a day. Some times it will go 2 days with NO eggs. I've...

    Egg size and color varies

My 4 Black Australorps are 1 year and 7 months old. Ever since they started laying the sizes vary. They have never been consistant. They also have never been consistant with their color. They vary from beautiful brown to very pale. I have a medium sized fenced in yard and they are free to...

    Blood on egg

Two of my Black Austrolorps just started laying last week. I have 5 but only two are laying. The eggs started out small but yesterday only one laid and it was a little bigger. Today both laid, one was bigger and pretty much the size I would expect. The second one laid an egg that was the...

    Funny behavier

My Black Austrolorps are 19 weeks old tomorrow. On Saturday two of them laid their first egg. They were small but had nice shells. Then Sunday there were three eggs. One small but normal. One the same size but soft pink shell. One as big as your finger tip, pink soft shell. Today only one...

    First Eggs.

My Black Austrolorps will be 19 weeks old in 2 days and from all the reading I've done I didn't expect the first egg till their 24 to 28 week. It was a good thing I did some cleaning in their coop this morning because I found two eggs laying together. I never raised chickens before so I was...

    Strange behavier

My chickens fill my empty times even if it's just to sit and watch them. They've become my family. And I imagine I'm no different from the rest of you, I talk to my chickens all the time. They growl at me a lot. Thanks every one for the encouragement.

    Strange behavier

She didn't do it in the dirt. It was in a nice patch of grass that she had been pecking at. She is concious of what she is doing and her suroundings. It is funny to watch but it scared me. These are my first chickens and I worry my self to death over them. It's going to kill me if/when I...

    Strange behavier

I have 5 Black Austrolorps that will be 18 weeks in 3 days. They have all seemed to be healthy. 3 have well developed combs and wattles, 1 hasn't caught up with the first 3 but almost, and 1 hardly has much of a comb and wattles. That one is shyer than the others and also slightly but...

Very disapointed with choice of chicken

Thanks. You all have given me much hope. I won't really eat them. They are too much fun to watch and I find that when I've felt stressed (since I got them) just sitting and talking to them really helps. I have 5 but in a few weeks I'm giving 2 of them to a friend.

Very disapointed with choice of chicken

I do sit with them alot. It's not the only but is has been my main treat since they were about 7 weeks has been live and dried mealworms. I did check the vent of each bird as I took it out of the shipping box and placed it in the brooder. Then I checked their vents every other day for the...

Very disapointed with choice of chicken

Thanks every one. They must have read my post from yesterday saying "I might eat them" because today when I openned the door they wouldn't come near my hand full of treat. Because my run is so low, when I open the doorway I'm always laying on the ground and my hand with treat is just above the...

    North Carolina

I agree with Ramiresframin, Get a live trap and use some cat food. It's great for raccoons also. Then just take the trap a long way away from where you live and release it in the woods. Keep the live trap and use it when ever you feel some thing is out there. Even if a pet cat gets caught...

Very disapointed with choice of chicken

I always give them treats. And when I do I bring them in the same bowl, call them the same way and I'm very slow and careful with my movements. They know they are getting treats and they will come to the door way but as soon as I open it (Very slow and talking quietly to them as I open it)...

Very disapointed with choice of chicken

I just started raising chickens. I checked all the breeds and fell in love with the Black Australorps. BUT in 10 weeks I have become extremely disapointed with them. I special ordered 5 pullets. When they arrived I was ready with a large box a new lawn mover came in. Plenty of space. I...
