Very disapointed with choice of chicken

I forgot to say they only get more fun to watch as they get older! You'll have to invite your friends over to chicken watch then they might just understand.

I agree with all of the above :D ... I don't have Australorps but I have a whole bunch of different breeds... They each have their own personalities, of course, to the point that they are like little gangs lol.... The Buttercups I have just accepted that I will never hold one; they act like I'm going to kill them lol but my 9 year old daughter can actually hypnotize them! I kid you not!!!

I was always right there with my hands all over them as chicks, except the Buttercups... My kids got the silkies and cochins, and I got a lap Cochin out of it lol... Some kids just break their guard maybe? But I spend a lot of time sitting with them, and follow me to the garden or to get feed.. I have a bag of mealworms that my rooster and 2 specific Barred Rocks can hear from a mile away ;)

Don't give up... They will get used to you, and if they get used to you always having treats or showing them a good patch of grass, they will start trusting and come to accept you as one of them :)

Thanks. You all have given me much hope. I won't really eat them. They are too much fun to watch and I find that when I've felt stressed (since I got them) just sitting and talking to them really helps. I have 5 but in a few weeks I'm giving 2 of them to a friend.
