I bought two pullets thinking they were an easter egger and isbar for their green- blue eggs. They both started laying but I havent gotten a colored egg other than brown!
We started to free range out chickens this year and quickly realized why the previous owners kept them cooped. They destroy the garden. We have several beds of flowers and all are desomated.
Any tips and tricks on how to keep them out? Id love to keep free ranging them.
Just noticed this on our rooster yesterday when i saw a hen pick at it. Hes about 7 months old and although hes the biggest oldest rooster hes not top dog inthe flock. Our RIR hens are at the top (and who ai caught pecking at his sore). I recently stopped free ranging them because we got...
For the past two days ive gone in to collect eggs and both times the eggs have been eaten. What do I do? Im pretty sure its another bird.
We recently added 4 silkies (i dont think its them), but ive switches from layered pellets to scratch and peck grower with oyster shells on the side. Do...
We got 4 silkies this spring and 2 turned out to be roos. We just integrated all 4 into our flock (2 buff orphingtons, 2 RIR, 2 Plymouth Rocks and 2 EE). We already have a EE Rooster, who is actually a great rooster. He's not aggressive toward us and he protects the ladies. He mainly hangs out...
Your coop is beautiful! Our door opening is inside the run as well. Theres and apple tree growing in it and shading the door. Theres also bushes covering the keft sode of the run. Do you think there will be enough light at dawn for the door to open?
Im integrating my 4 silkies today inti the flock and using their coop to quarentine the new pullet. How far away does her coop need to be from the flocks run? We normally free range, but can keep them in their run for a month ot two.
Is it really terrible if I only add one pullet?
We've free ranged them together and for the most part theyre ok. The RIR dont really pay any mind to them, though they are are at the top of the pecking order. Its the buff orphington that pecks at them.
Any recommendations? Im in the Pacific Northwest and am worried the door wont open early enough or close too early. Any have experience with this?
Ate there any doors that you can set to a timer?
