Annnnd another soft shelled egg this evening...
I just hope she's ok and wanted to know if there was anything i could do to help. I'll just have to carry on as usual and hope she gets back to normal soon.
I got another soft shelled egg today found in the bedding but yesterday i got an actual egg from her!
We put out the layers pellets in the morning before i let them out the coop, the pellets are out for them all day so they're not rationed with their feed.
If she's molting surely she'd be...
The feed is Heygates Country layers pellets with 16% protein and 5% fibre. Some days i do forget about the corn in the evenings so the layers pellets is all she'll eat throughout the day, apart from grass etc from free-ranging. I'll give them plain water too for a bit and see.
I have an 18 month old speckledy hen (Rhode Island Red crossed with a Maran). I've had pretty much an egg a day from her since she started laying as a pullet. About 2 months ago she's stopped laying.
A couple of times after she first stopped laying i remember looking into the coop at night to...
I couldn't find any shops locally that sold coccidiosis treatments so i've ended up going to my local farm vets. They were super helpful and looked at my chick, looked at a poo sample under the microscope and then gave me 4 syringes with the measurements of the treatment that i needed. Have been...
The vaccinated 3 have been vaccined against Mareks, Infectious Bronchitus, Newcastles and Common Mircoplasma. Then i've been giving them all medicated feed too.
From what i can see it's only the 1 chick pooping blood, i put it by itself last night and had it on kitchen paper so i could have a...
Someone i know had something that looked very similar, turned out that the rooster had decided to corner the hen and pecked her head silly. She is a pure white hen but by the end of it her whole head and down her neck was red with blood. Needless to say the rooster wasn't around too much longer...
I bought 3 two week old chicks from a breeder a couple of weeks ago and all 3 of them were sneezing, shaking their heads etc. It turned out it was from where they'd had their vaccinations and had 'colds' as a side effect. They've all got over it since and are now fine.
I wonder if anyone has any ideas to help me...I have 8 chicks; 5 that i've hatched, 3 that i've bought. The 3 that i'd bought had all been vaccinated and once i'd got them home and into the brooder with the others, i noticed that they were all sneezing. The sneezing then spread onto my own that...
So, my chicks have been on antibiotics for 10 days now and they're all sneezing now, one even seems raspy. The vaccinated chicks are fine now, just my own hatch are now sneezing and scratching their noses. I'll carry them on until day 14...if there's still no improvement, what do I do?
Hi,
Thanks to both of you for your help!
My little ones have started to do tiny sneezes so i've now put them on antibiotics. Just hope it works and they all survive. I lost my eldest hen today and i really don't want to loose any chicks too.
Thanks again
Oh and when you say a round of antibiotics, how long is a round for? A week? And would i do a 800mg dosage like i would for full grown chickens or a weakened dosage?
So you'd put all chicks on antibiotics straight away? I'd be worried about it taking too much out of them, especially if it might give them diarrhea and they're feeling poorly already...
I've put electrolytes in their water to give them a boost to try and get them over their colds and help the...
Hi,
Thanks so much for your reply.
I'm in the UK so getting hold of antibiotics is a pain in the....but fortunately about a month ago i had a friend visit the US and i got her to bring me back some chicken bits (as you do ) that cost a bomb to buy here in the UK i.e Vet Rx and antibiotics as...
