So much of a "dream flock" depends on what you expect from your chickens. All around#1 is the Dominique, especially if you have broody hens that will raise your chicks naturally, they lay very good and forage(if allowed) for a lot of their feed. Speckled Sussex are also good, but I had bad luck...
Thanks, My doms are great chickens but mine are really broody and so I have these 15 +- day gaps when they don't lay even after I've broken them from setting. I'm thinking the brown leghorns will fill in the gaps.
Regarding brown leghorns: I have dominiques now and they day-range,I open the coop at daybreak and in the evening they go back to the coop and I close it up. If I get brown leghorns can I expect them to go to roost in the coop at night also. Thanks
