Hi,
We have three old hens (6 years old) and recently moved to Lancaster, PA. We read over the township website and did not see a reason why they could not make the move with us so we did so and yesterday received a letter saying that we are in violation. Does anyone have any advice...
Hi! May I ask where in Lancaster are you? We just moved to East Hempfield and got a letter from the township yesterday saying we have to get rid of our three old hens. I am heart broken and my five year old is sad. If anyone that reads this has any advice, please let me know. I can be reached at...
Hi Chicks47,
I hope your hen gets better. I don't know much about the diseases chickens can get as we're pretty new to keeping backyard chickens, but we did have one of our hens get sick last year and I'm thinking it was this one. She produced the oddest looking eggs, but besides that she...
We had the chicken put down last night. Vet said she felt something disk-like in her and wasn't sure what it was, but her abdomen was full of fluid. There was no saving her. Sorry for the bad news. My girl still had an appetite too so it sounds like your chickie has the same issue. Sorry! Wish I...
Well, in case anyone was wondering here is a diagnosis from a friend of a friend who is a chicken expert. Still taking her into the vet tonight. Might have to put the bird down. Shame, she was a nice pet...
My guess is that the chicken is egg bound, or developed ascites from an adenocarcinoma...
Hi, I have a hen who I noticed yesterday was having touble waking and her tail was down. Almost penguin like. Any suggestions of what's going on with her. Maybe an egg stuck? We have a vet appointment tonight. I have a photo of her, but don't know how to upload it.
I put him down. The duck had slipped tendons and a possible fracture and would never live a good life doing duck things, like swimming. The vet said that it would get worse as he grew and became heavier, probably developing sores. She even had an orthopedic surgeon look and he said the same...
She can walk, just walks crooked. I actually made a little video of her walking, but it's 10 mbs so I don't think I can upload it. If anyone wants to see if and can take a large file like that, let me know and I'll email it.
She goes to vet tomorrow at 3:00 eastern time so I'll let everyone...
Ok, I uploaded the photos, but don't know how to post them. Maybe these links will work...

I just went to check on the duckling, again, this morning. She (I think it's a she) seems to be healthy otherwise from the leg problem. The story is, she was brought to the animal rescue I volunteer at over the weekend by a person who thought she was hit by a car. Upon closer inspection (by me)...
I'm new to this site and trying to find out if anyone has ever experienced perosis. I volunteer at an animal rescue (mostly horses) and we got in a duckling with leg issues. I'm not a vet and neither is anyone at the animal rescue so I'm trying to figure what is wrong with him and if anything...
I realize this is an older post, but can you tell me what happened to your chicken? Did you have to put it down? I volunteer at an animal rescue that just got in a duckling with leg issues. I'm thinking it's perosis, but I'm not a vet so I don't know. Tonight I just offered to take the duckling...
I have to admit, I'm totally new to this site and I didn't read over every post word for word so my apologies if I'm doing something wrong... Has anyone ever heard of perosis or had a chicken that had it? This seems to fit the description as well. I'd be interested to see if anyone has...
