    STICKTIGHT FLEAS

Just noticed my chickens have sticktight fleas. Some of them only have a couple on their faces around their eyes, on their comb, wattles etc. Others have quite a few. What is the MOST effective way of ridding them. I'm not a naturalist although I am open to effective methods. This is the first...

    Lice...AGAIN!

Thank you. That is something I haven't tried yet. What should I treat it with. I saw where Chicken Chick suggested Elector ESP spray as a coop and bird treatment... wonder if that's my easiest option.

    Lice...AGAIN!

Yes, they free range in my large backyard and have made plenty of deep dust baths. I even made "special" dust baths in the runs for them. Mixed dirt and fireplace wood ash and they don't ever use them. Our soil here is pretty sandy too.

    Lice...AGAIN!

I feel like I am constantly battling lice. Is that normal?! Whenever I notice them I dust the birds with a wheelbarrow mix of DE, Sevin and Poultry and Garden Dust. Clean coops and repeat a week later. Should I just go back to Sevin straight up? Dust 3 weeks in a row?? Such a frustrating and...

    Hands on hatching and help

Thank you!! I made the hole a little bigger, did see some veins so I stopped. Hoping it can do the rest on its own!

    Hands on hatching and help

Hi! I am currently at day 22. 9 eggs made it to lockdown out of 12. And so far 2 have hatched and are cruising around. A third egg has externally pipped for 24 hours now. I had hoped that it would hatch over night last night. It has made a TINY bit more progress since I saw it last night. I'm...

    Lice

Yes, I forgot to mention I put DE and poultry dust in the coop. Maybe I need to put more! Also use nesting box herbs... Not sure that helps deter lice though.

    Lice

About two months ago I tackled a lice problem. I mixed (in a wheelbarrow) DE, Sevin, and Poultry dust. I dusted each bird (30) under wings, vent, breast, back. I repeated once a week for a month for a total of 4 dustings and cleaned the coop after every time except the last. I was determined to...

    Infection or Eyeworn

There might be a tiny bit of pus but it's not hard like that other stuff was. I'll try tonight to get it out. I couldn't get it out yesterday. I've been using the Tobramycin eye drops hoping that will flush it out too. Also, her egg she laid the other day was before she got any oral antibiotics...

    Infection or Eyeworn

Swelling has gone down... Especially on that inner eyelid. I can finally see the eyeball. Pretty sure she's blind in it as it looks discolored.

    Infection or Eyeworn

I've been giving her 0.25 ml 1x a day.... Does that sound about right?

Update: She feels so much better that she laid her first egg today! Wahoo!

    Infection or Eyeworn

So happy I did it. I am the crazy chicken lady in our small town. Other people have chickens but they're not as into them haha! I bet she's around the 5-6lb mark. My husband is going to bring me some Baytril from his cattle today. I've got the pullet in the garage on "bed rest" haha! Plus it's...

    Infection or Eyeworn

I spent and hour and a half working on that nasty gunk. Got 99% of it out. I bet it was the same size (in chunks) as a very large green grape or even a cherry. I am shocked I didn't vomit. So I put Terramycin and Tobramycin drops in it. I picked up some Tylan 50. Should i give her that or...

    Infection or Eyeworn

And that peacock! Wow! I wonder if that's what her deal is! There's no way I'd be able to do that... My sister is in her 3rd year of vet school... She would totally do it for me if she were close by! Haha!

    Infection or Eyeworn

Will do! I was able to get a little out today. I'll keep trying... Used some needle nose tweezer type things. It's a matter of holding her still so I don't gouge her eye! Eeek! I'll also make sure to not eat before or after... So nasty. The resistance that blob gives is yuck! I have tried...
