OMG! What the heck do I do now?

Two more when I got home! Three total-- and one more is peeping through the egg. I brought the just hatched into the house. They are drinking and one is even pecking at some scrambled egg -- he is the biggest, I think that is the one that hatched this morning. Wow! This is amazing!

OMG! What the heck do I do now?

Okay -- I'll remove the one this evening, I don't have the brooder set up yet but will do that now. I did candle the eggs a while ago and they all looked like there was something in there compared to the good/bad pics posted on here. But wouldn't it be bad to handle the eggs now if they are...

OMG! What the heck do I do now?

My Australorp hatched out a poult! It's alive and underneath her -- there are 4 more eggs under her, how long do I wait to see how many hatch? And then what? I have other chickens and it is supposed to snow this week. Right now I have the other chickens locked out of the coop so they don't...

What do I do if/when they hatch?

I have 5 turkey eggs sitting under a chicken -- she has faithfully set these eggs since about the 15th of April -- so if they are gonna hatch it should be next week I am guessing -- so what do I do if/when they hatch? The nest sits up off the floor so I don't want them to fall out and how the...

    9 yesterday 11 today

My black hen is setting a nest! Yesterday there were 9 eggs in there and today there are 11. She made herself a nest in a patch next to our barn where I have mint that grows in a big hedge. She doesn't stay on the nest all day though. Is that normal? My gray hen has a serious crush on my...

Found an egg -- what do I do?

I do have a Tom. He is my pal now as we butchered the other Tom. So what do I do as I find these eggs? Put them in an incubator as I find them? How long can they last without being set? For instance if I find them out there, I will have no idea how long they have been there. I really don't want...

Found an egg -- what do I do?

Well, my two girls or at least one of them must be laying somewhere. My kids found an egg this morning, but the bad news is that my dog had it. So they are on a search for the nest. What do I do with this egg? What do I do if I find more eggs? I guess I should have thought this out a little...

    Turkeys attacking relative.

My Toms have started doing this too. The only one they like is my daughter who raised them. We are planning a turkey dinner soon. I am keeping only one Tom to see if that helps the aggressiveness. Makes you mad when you cuddle them as babies and they turn on you!

Thoughts on Turkey ownership with pics

I thought you might enjoy pictures of our turkeys. We have two breeding pairs: two Eastern Wild and two Spanish Black. I also had two standard bronze, but one keeled over as a poult and one was "lost" -- just disappeared one day. We free range on 10 acres, but these buggers just hang out at the...

    Two hens, two toms

Yes, all of my birds free-range on ten acres. They have the run of the place. I pen them up in their "house" (turkeys have their own house, chickens another) at night to keep predators at bay. I don't like penning up the birds, it just makes more work for me taking care of them, and they are...

    Two hens, two toms

It's funny, I kind of cured them of the "we can't eat that" by getting 25 meat chickens that are are raising. They kids HATE those birds, think they are "gross" and I have to admit, they are a little icky to look at, they grow so fast and are such pigs. We also have egg layers: leghorns...

    Two hens, two toms

I got 6 poults this spring: 2 eastern wild, 2 spanish black, and 2 regular bronze. I am hoping to have a hen set a nest in the spring. I ended up with just the eastern and the blacks making it and I have a hen and a tom of each. Should I keep the two toms? I kind of like having an "extra" tom...

Is there a way to train a grown dog not to chase chickens?

We have a shepherd that killed several birds. She seemed to go after the white ones only. My BIL is a world-renowned bird dog trainer and he advised us to lay the dog down and put chickens on her head, making her stay there and take it. We did and she hasn't bothered the chickens since. She...
