    Pullet laying in run

Hi, I have an RIR pullet that refuses to lay in the nest boxes i provide. The boxes are bedded with hay and i've planted golf balls. My leghorns and BR are laying in the nest box. So my question is, how to get the RIR to lay in the nest box instead of out in the run. Thanks in advance

    Nestboxes

What is required of a nest box for a chicken to lay in it? Does it have to have straw or hay in it? Currently, i just have some wooden boxes with 5 sides and a bit of carpet on the bottom. So basically a cube with an open face. I'm afraid the chickens won't lay in them. Thanks.

    Free Ranging

Hi, I'm new to chickens. For their whole 15 weeks of life so far, my chickens have been confined to their coop and run. I was wondering how to start free ranging them. Is it easy to loose one of the flock? What should i do to get them to come back? Thanks in advance
