I waited 10 months on for one of mine to lay. The other 3 of the same age layed at or around 5 months old. Mine started acting like they were going to lay, squatting and sitting in nesting boxes about 3 weeks before the first egg. I know you are anxious but it will happen when it happens!
I don't have a rooster and I haven't noticed any bullying amongst my 4 hens but I don't have eyes on them 24/7. Lol! The skin looks fine, just missing feathers but the quills are still there. :/
Okay, 3 of my girls have been laying pretty consistently for 2 months but my 4th girl, nothing. They are all the same age so I'm wondering if this is normal. She does stand in the coop door and watch the others as they lay. Is she just in charge of moral and cheering them on or as my son says...
Got my first egg from one of my hens on Monday. Woop woop, joy, joy! She laid 3 days in a row and then stopped. She still acts like she is going to lay, getting in the nest box and sitting but nothing. I've checked her vent area and it seems fine. Still eating and drinking. Is this normal for...
I buy bags of top soil and mix DE into it. They seem to enjoy it and get the benefit of DE without it disappearing into the wind. Seems to last longer that way. :)
Last night one of my BO's gave me the first submissive squat. This morning a second one did. I was so excited my family thought I was a nut! They will be 6 months on the 10th of September and no eggs yet so this is an exciting time for me because I'm thinking any day now I will get my first egg!
Anytime I put something new or even move something around in my chickens run, they act like, Omg! Omg! What is that, that's scary! Wait...can we eat it? Lol! I have the same kind of dust bath and they were afraid at first but now they use it all the time.
One of my buffs has me concerned as well. I got them all at the same time, on April 10th of this year. No crowing or anything but one just has a bigger comb and wattle. Can't go by egg laying because im still patiently waiting. [/IMG][/IMG]
