Anyone with turkey experience that can apply it to this..... Our tom seemed to be staying the same and now its seems to be worse. Even his snood in the last couple days has swollen up, not like ive seen it before..... Any suggestions from anyone ???? Injectable antibiotics? Medications? Last...
Hi everyone, I posted in "Turkeys" but havent obtained much help.... not yet anyways. I'm having concerns with our less than 1 yr old tom turkey. He has developed, almost overnight, a hardened, almost infected looking area along the leading edge of his waddle. It's somewhat hard to the touch and...
Hello all, so we have 3 beautiful young Royal Palm Turkeys, less than a year old, 1 tom and 2 hens.
Within 24 hours, I noticed that the toms waddle looked as if he had sustained an injury. On closer inspection, I cant confirm that its in fact an injury at all, but there is a mass along the...
Thanks for all the support...
Ive spent decent money on these 4 new carrier birds and hate to just give up on them but part of me says, do a drive-by and drop them off from where they came from!
I'm finding that birds are excellent in hiding their illness until they are knocking on deaths door...
Also, is there a concern with eating any eggs we get from the hens we still have seeing as they are probably "carriers"?
What's the probability of new pullets or hens being added to the existing birds, and them coming down sick too?
I can't be the only one who has been in this same position...
Update on our flock illnesses.
I have lost all of my original chickens to whatever respiratory illness they're dealing with. The four that I purchased recently which are suspected of bringing in this illness all seem fine. Two of the four new birds which are lavenders seem to have what I'm...
Ok I located Tylan50 locally but have decided to take in the 2 sickest birds to our vet this morning for treatment and get a plan together for the rest of the birds.
BYC910 your exactly right on quarantining new birds! I guess I let my guard down when the new girls seemed so healthy & full of...
I just went out in the dark to check on the girls in their coop. Im unsure but the Americauna might sound like she is breathing a bit raspy (almost like a purring) or maybe just startled by my night time presence...
My son and I added vitamins / electolytes to their water, also added a few drops...
We orig had 4 hens, all approx 1 year old and all laying pretty regularly ( 1 Barred Rock, 1 Americauna, & 2 black Ostrolorps).
We decided introduced 4 new hens to our 4 orig girls (the new ones are 2 buff Orpington and 2 Lavender Orpington, all approx 7mnth to 1 yr old).
Two weeks after...
it has three windows with black hardware cloth and same for the front door. I was inside it in the sun here in sunny Florida and it was actually comfortable.
Thank you for the reply!
I get everything your saying and you have clarified some things for me.
I will look for a more powerful charger designed for netting and the pvc idea was great too.
Thank you
Gotcha, my coop is plastic so no rotting Wood issues there. As for the hardware cloth, im sure I could figure something out that would help fend off monsters in the night.
What about locking up the coop at night? Seeing that I will have electric netting, can I let them come and go to coop as...
Im not intending to have any bottom boards at all. My coop would have an open floor with earth dirt ground & deep litter wood shavings.
One reason for this is if I were to elevate the coop, it will take away from the coops appearance ( will post pictures of coop soon ). The second reason is...
I have designed a small coop and plan on having it directly on the ground (dirt floor with deep litter). It seems that most "small" coops are elevated, while large ones are typically on the ground (for logistical reasons I sure). Is there any reason to shy away from having a small coop on the...
So I'm looking for advice on a charger for approx. 80 feet of poultry netting. I've read there's a bit of resistance when it comes to the netting and ground contact aka grass, weeds etc.
I was looking at a Patriot Solarguard 155 (found a new one for a really great price), seeing as I wont have...
