I am sorry, we just had one hatch that had a belly as big as the egg, and you could see through the belly. It died. I felt pretty crappy, this is the part that really sucks.
Thanks for the info! We have already had to wipe a little fuzzy butt, and still keeping an eye on it. They are eating and drinking, so I am happy about that.
Okay, so this is the first time we have incubated any eggs or let a hen sit on any. We have one Mottled Houdan under the hen and 2 more Houdans and 3 White Crested Polish in the incubator.
It is a homemade incubator and although I am confident I can do things I had never done this before...
My humidity has been 54% , we have it up to 67%, is that high enough? Also, there is condensation on the glass, is that a problem? Thanks for any input.
This is our first attempt at incubating, and we are doing it with a homemade bator. We started out with a dozen eggs. Some Mottled Houdans, and White crested polish. After candling and tossing out the bad, we have 3 of each. I am so excited I could almost wet my pants. This is probably...
I have read that you are suppose to average the two temps of when your light turns on and then shuts off, and that is your internal egg temp. Our light kicks on at 97, and shuts off at 102 so our average is 99.5. Every time we have candled the babies have been moving and they look good.
We are due the 17th. This is our first hatch, and we are so excited. My husband makes fun of me, but every once in a while he makes a comment, and it just shows he is just as excited.
I am not very experienced at this - okay not at all since I have my first set of eggs in the bator right now - but have been reading a lot. Have you candled the eggs to see if the ones in the bator are developing? Could be you have duds.
Hope all is okay for you.
