Is This Disease Or Rooster Abuse?

Haven't gotten rid of the 2 roos I ended up keeping that were on my suspect list for causing trouble. When I had 6 roos they were over-mating this one bantam hen so bad she was nearly bald by the time I got rid of 4 of them. Helped even things out a lot and give some of the popular hens some...

Is This Disease Or Rooster Abuse?

Not sure, but wouldn't doubt it. Daily egg production has dipped from 6-8 to 3-4 eggs per day. Like I mentioned, other hens have similar marking just not as bad. So it makes sense it is fowl pox. Just didn't know that even existed. Good ole BYC community knowledge sharing

Swollen Eye Lid On Baby Chick (Need Treatment Advice)

Yeah, I was wondering if that is the case after someone said one of my other hens I was asking about had dry fowl pox too. If it had to be something better this than many of the other things it could be. Thanks :)

Is This Disease Or Rooster Abuse?

Ah okay, the chicken is right about a year old. Maybe chicken pox got its name from dry fowl pox if you treat it the same by letting it run through them.

Is This Disease Or Rooster Abuse?

It has been a week or more since I really got close and loved on my chickens. My matriarch hen looks like she has been abused or has something ailing her. A little over a month ago I had 6 roosters reach sexual maturity and they were roughing up my ladies. I got rid of 4 and kept the two nicest...

Swollen Eye Lid On Baby Chick (Need Treatment Advice)

Noticed a few days ago my smallest baby had a swollen eye. Separated it from the rest for a few days to see if the swelling would go down on its own. After a few days it was evident the swollen flesh was not subsiding but only getting bigger. This is with the eye open and closed. Eye...

Broody hens losing place in the pecking order?

At the moment some of my bantams are broody--2 silkies, a Dutch, and Mille de Fleur. Before getting broody I introduced about 10 4-week old chicks to my current flock of 10. Many were the same size as my full grown Dutch. I noticed she was more of a heifer than the other chickens in bullying the...

    Raising Baby Chicks In Coop?

I walked it off today and it was actually closer to 300 sq. ft. I do not have a good feel for imagining how large area is in square feet. Where 1 sq ft in my head is closer to a sq yard. I was thinking about putting some roosting poles or boards that spanned across the coop about a foot or so...

I just ordered a blue andelusian myself from MPC. You could call one Andy, the other Lew, and the last Shaun or Shin.

    Heat lamps

If they are panting and at the opposite side of where the light is stationed they feel overheated. Ideally the chicks should be evenly distributed around the enclosure you are raising them. Buy one of those cheap $2 thermometers you find around an endcap at walmart and place it in with the...

    Raising Baby Chicks In Coop?

Off the top of my head 8' L X 6' W X 8' H. Chicken run is about 50 sq ft. I do not have a broody cage. Shouldn't be too hard to build one but in the interim I will transfer to the stock tank and see what happens there. This pictures are when I first bought my house before I got chickens.

    Raising Baby Chicks In Coop?

Hello, I have had trouble finding this information on this specific problem. Quick coop husbandry. I have a coop and run large enough to comfortably suit approximately 16 large chickens. I have 8 large and 12 bantams. The "old" crew were 10 mixed heavy/bantams females from mypetchicken. The...
