My EE tried to escape today! (with pics)

We ALSO have an EE very similar to yours named Bella with a grey beard. She unfortunately is the runt of a flock of 11 free range hens. Each one has a female mate of the same breed, but her (hers got into a dog pen and was killed) and she's also the smallest. I noticed lately though she has...

    Capillaria or Pot Worms???

This morning while refilling our free range pullet's & 1 roo's (30 - 28wks old) water this morning, I noticed tiny (maybe a centimeter long and 1mm wide) white worms (some moving/some dead) on the sidewalk. Here are the facts, they were nearby spots where the chicks had dug up dirt from the...

Comb bleeding or staining neck in the rain?

Well, it rained and it didn't do it. So I guess it was blood. Go figure!

Thanks SilkieChicken! Still haven't had any rain, but will still post a photo of him wet when we do.

Comb bleeding or staining neck in the rain?

Not sure they mean that color of red though now that I think of it...we'll see if it stays or goes.

Comb bleeding or staining neck in the rain?

Oops!! He's not a Cornish Rock...another one was (geesh!)...he's a Golden Comet. Anyway, I just looked them up to see if perhaps they had a reddish tinge - since he still does when dry. Guess what? The cockerels do! Here I go feeling like an idiot for looking for a quick answer from...

Comb bleeding or staining neck in the rain?

On mine, Rhett, the whole back of his neck gets red - from under the base of the back of the comb to the base of his neck, and then pretty much from side to side (if I remember correctly). Is it the same with yours? I'm going to go look closely again and see if any of the red is still there...

Comb bleeding or staining neck in the rain?

As for molting and pin feathers, I don't think he's quite done growing them out yet. So I'm not sure if he would have those yet. He does have red skin, but the white feathers are turning red.

Apriln2000 is right...it looks like paint or dye...it's almost a cream red.

Comb bleeding or staining neck in the rain?

Well, I'm glad to hear it's not just mine. No, it's not the skin - I did look closely to check if it was when I first saw it. Plus, I looked at him today and there is still a little red at the base of his neck - as if the rest washed off. He is white (Cornish Rock), though I can't imagine...

Comb bleeding or staining neck in the rain?

I'll have to wait till it rains again, but I will try and get a photo. It goes from the base of the back of his comb and then it looks like it's run down the back of his neck almost to the base of his neck. He seems fine though...go figure.

Comb bleeding or staining neck in the rain?

It's happened twice now when it's raining. There appears to be blood or a red stain on the back of our only rooster's white neck the past two times it's rained (not any other time). I can't imagine the comb color is running - that's just silly. I couldn't see any injury and the "blood"...

    Blue Comb and Waddle

Thanks for the answers (I'm Asiatic's wife), we were a little embarassed. I left the car grease joke right after we figured out that's what it was. They were spending some time under a car. While I was franticly calling vets looking for help, on a hunch I decided to try washing it....and it...
