Minefalls Coop
My coop took me about 3 weeks to build, I got the plans from DYI and modified it a little bit.
The Process!!!
I upgraded the siding from the plans and what a big difference that makes, Front & Back view.
All the siding done and roof on!
Side View, I moved the window and...
To Jenski,
Just wondering with the poultry dust do you wait a certain period of time before eating eggs again?
I have dust my girls with DE last night and this morning still found some creepy crawlers, though not a lot. So thinking I am going to dust them tonight with the poultry dust.
I dusted them tonight and added it to the whole coop and run then to areas they dust bath in the yard. It's so frustrating as I clean the whole coop like every 3 months, power wash the roost, plus pick up daily in the coop. Geez.
When should I dust them again? Do you think the DE is enough?
I...
Hi Lynn,
Thanks for your reply, I just checked one of the girls as she is a little broody right now and saw small clear bugs not red or black. I have some DE so dusted her but the others will have to wait until roost time they are hard to catch.
I dusted inside the coop/roost/nesting box.
Do you...
Hi
I hope to get some help, I have 4 chickens and they are itchy loss feathers and now I am seeing some white bumps on one chicken below her eyes (maybe some type of egg?) I think it's some type of fleas. I cleaned the coop and really only saw a few small black flying insects that does fly.
I...
We have a lot of crows around us too, and too my suprise, I had my girls out and heard them making a lot of noise. I ran outside as thought they may have been after my girls, nope they were chasing a hawk away.
Thank goodness!
Ok so they just opened up a Tractor supply store two towns from me. I talked with a gentleman there that owns chickens himself.
He said, the bugs I mentioned wouldn't cause harm to the chickens. He thinks what I am seeing is; it's their age, they are a year old and will moult 3 times this year...
Ok, I will try to post a picture this afternoon or in the morning.
You hit it on the head, it seems like their feathers are being pluck out, From the vent all the way underneath them , also now starting on top. The skin has been a little red, like an irriation was happening. I looked around...
Well, we call them nats, also called Gnats, they are almost like a fruit fly but a tad bigger and black. I could not find a picture by googling it. So far what I read they are in the fly family. Now I am wondering if they picked them up in the yard and brought them back to the coup. I did a...
Hi Everyone,
Wonder if I could get some help on Pest. I live in New England, it's been very rainy here about 2-3 months ago I notice my chickens (4 of them) were losing feathers underneath and though they were moulting but it's continuing, they havn't got them back yet. Then today I notice while...
Yup, My first egg, my girls are Buff Orpingtons 32 weeks old today! It's perfectly shaped, nice and clean, right in the nest, just on the small size. Now I am finally part of the egg club..LOL
So now does anyone eat their first small egg?
I got the girls at Meyer Hatchery, though afterwards I found out the local fair does sell pullets and hens also. So if I ever add more girls I would look there.
My cover girl (Millie, though maybe I'll change it to Cindy) is always the first to come running to me! )
Yes, this is great to know!! No need for me to worry somthing is wrong!
Your right the do mature at different rates, 3 of my girls combs are getting red and bigger but one is still pinkish.
I call her my cover girl, as she just gives the best looks for the camera.
Wow, Aran, I think you will be getting a lot of eggs!!
Did you get snow yesterday?
I bought my girls, mostly for eating bugs in the yard. We have ticks and a few of my dogs came up positive for lymes so though they may help somewhat. I can't use chemicals because of the dogs and don't really...
Thanks for the info, Miss Prissy & Deb! They sure are characters!! They see me in the yard and come running to see what I might have for them. Too funny!! I love their coloring too, around their neck when the sun hits their feathers, it's really shiny, very pretty.
I am also amazed at their...
Just wondering, I have 4 Buff orpington's that are 24 weeks old now, No eggs yet. I think they went through a mild moult last month.
I plan not to add light to the coop, so will they not lay at all in the winter? Am I looking at my first egg in the spring time?
I really have to say, I just...
Yes, I built it pretty much myself..My brother did most of the lumber cuts for me and I put it togather. He made the door and trim out front as thought it would give it some character! I used the plans on build it yourself website I just moved the chicken door and window to the run side so I...
