I have six hens and there are two that are relentless on my little Americauna who happens to be molting right now. Do I isolate them? If so, how? For how long? And where? Totally away from the coop?
I already bought some pellets for hens losing feathers, and she gets meal worms and oyster shells.
But how do I deal with the rest of the entire flock pecking at her?
Hi there BYC :)
This is my first flock and it's been one year since I've had my six adorable hens.
My youngest hen, Hunny (an Americauna) has lost a significant about of feathers all over. At first I thought she was molting, still unsure, but why just one hen? And not all of them? Then...
Six months? Wow...yeah I'm hoping once the two littles get big enough they will stand up to the others. They're constantly being run out of places. Thanks for your response.
They've been together for about 2 months now. Started with four and added two. The bigs, all of them, pick on the littles. The littles are always running away from them. The bigs don't go after them but if the little are around them they'll scold them. Will they ever all get a long?
They were integrated successfully, I mean very slowly and inside the coop with a barrier, etc. they free range together but there's on big, the barred ricksha always chased them back inside the run. I wish they would all hang together:(. They roost separately too. The littles try to hang with...
I have 4 big hens, 6 months old and two littler ones, 4 months old. They all live together now in the coop and in the run. But every day I see a big bullie one of the littles. The Americauna sticks up for herself most of the time but the RIR, is so scared all the time. I love them all, but when...
Okay great tips/advice. I'm thinking of using a Rubbermaid container, newspaper and shavings on the bottom. And setting that right inside the coop with the four other hens. Tacking on some plastic netting on top, water and their food inside of course. Then clamping the heat lamp and using a...
The pullets are about 10-12 weeks old. They have their feathers and look like little miniature chickens. Some still have their diapers. Really cute! My coop is 4x6 which seems like a lot of room and they have a 6x11 foot run off of that. I can have six hens in the city here so I'm wanting to add...
I'm wondering if it's okay go put two 2 week old chicks inside the coop with my other four pullets that are almost three months old? Using a panel for a divider and a heat lamp.
Help
Oh my!! That's awful. I had a hawk sitting on top of their temporary pen last week, and when I sprayed the garden hose at it, it was like "eh, I'll think about flying away!" I have a westie that's obsessed with them too. I do t trust her one bit! She's like Sylvester the cat. I love my little...
Okay thank you. I love in Gilroy and it finally looks like it may be cooler today so just leaving the hatch closed up for a couple days is okay? I was thinking of letting them out while be nearby to give them
Some reprieve but will this confuse them? It may be hard to get them back in too...
I finally got our coop for my four girls about 9 weeks old now. The run to it is not done however. Can they stay inside the coop for a couple days? I had to carry them inside the coop last night.
